ACADEMICS
INTERNATIONAL WEEK
JANUARY 31 - FEBRUARY 3

LTS celebrates International week each year to recognize the different cultures in our school and around the world.  Plans include international Jeopardy, student presentations, international games and the annual pot luck lunch.  All families are asked to contribute a dish from their cultural heritage to share with the school on Thurs., Feb. 2. Main dishes and sides are especially appreciated.  

GOT MAPS?
Old state or world maps are needed for an upcoming middle school Empty Bowls art project. They will be used for decoupage and will not be returned.

 
IB INFORMATION NIGHT
Tuesday, January 31 at 6:30 pm
On Tues., Jan. 31, an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) information night will be held in the LTS theater at 6:30. Parents of 8th-10th graders are encouraged to attend. LTS Coordinators as well as some LTS IB teachers will be available to answer questions after the presentation. Please contact Deb MacDonald with questions.

First semester grades will be sent to colleges in late January.

BUDGET CHALLENGE OFFERS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP MONEY
Exciting opportunity to learn about managing finances and to earn scholarship money for college!  The following students are representing Long Trail School in the H&R Block Budget Challenge that runs from Jan. 26 - Apr. 6: Lindy Burch-Durkee, Eliza Ligon, Hope Soucy, Nessia Crispe, Noah Patry, Nix Forest, Evan Semet, Rebecca Salzer, Lily Burnham, Ace Burtonboy, Cedric Jakob, Bailey O'Donnell, Collin Racine, Lili Rambold, and Riley Williams.

2017 CHAMPLAIN COLLEGE YOUNG WRITERS CONFERENCE
High school students are invited to a weekend of writing workshops, craft sessions, and open mic at the Champlain College Young Writers' Conference on May 26-28. Emerging writers who wish to share their passion for story, drama, and song with their peers and with celebrated New England authors are welcome for 3 days of readings, improv, Moth storytelling, poetry slams, literary jazz/blues fusion, and friendship at Burlington's Champlain College. NEW TEEN BOOK COLLECTION AT THE MANCHESTER COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Drop by the Manchester Community Library on Wed., Jan. 31, and grab a snack and a book from our newly dedicated Emerging Adult Collection for students in grades 9 through 12. Located in the Fiction Room, this assortment of popular titles includes everything from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo to Frank Herbert's Sci Fi classic, Dune. See you at the Library!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad needs help with their annual fundraising raffle. Volunteers will stuff envelopes on Sun., Feb. 5 at 10 am at the LRS building on Route 100.  Work will count toward your Community Service requirement.

8TH GRADE MONTREAL TRIP MEETING 
Tuesday, January 31 from 5:45- 6:30 pm
8th graders and parents are encouraged to meet about the April trip to Montreal. 
​T​ravel document​s, trip ​itinera​ry and the​ final fundraising dinner​ will be discussed. ​This meeting is not required in order for your child to participate​ in the trip, but it will give an overview and a chance to ask questions.​  Please contact Kim Rizio.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK POT LUCK LUNCH
Thursday, February 2

International Week (Jan. 30- Feb. 3) will culminate in an all-school pot luck lunch on Thurs., Feb. 2. Parent volunteers are needed to help collect, sort and serve the meal.  If you can help, please contact Kim Murphy.


AIRBAND IS COMING!
Saturday, February 11 at 7 pm
Come to a competition where students take famous song recordings and create an accompanying act! In its eleventh year, AirBand doles out significant cash prizes for first, second, third, and fourth places. Tickets are $15 for general seating and $17 for preferred seating.

ADMISSIONS

PARENT VISIT DAY
Wednesday, February 1

Current and prospective parents are invited to attend a class and have lunch on Wed., Feb. 1 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. LTS is thrilled to open our classrooms to the community and show it off.  

Options include math, science, history, English, world languages, and arts; visitors can observe Middle School, Upper School, and mixed level classes.  Parents may come for one or two classes and join in on a round table lunch with faculty and administration.

LONG TRAIL PARENT ASSOCIATION (LTPA)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR JAVA HOUSE ON JANUARY 28
LTPA's Java House on Sat., Jan. 28 is in Long Trail’s Whalen Common Room. Celebrating the Chinese New Year, we will transform the space with cozy seating and enjoy hot beverages, dessert and friends. LTS community members will entertain the crowd! Doors open at 6:30 for the 7:00 pm start. Tickets are $5.

Your help is greatly needed. Please sign up to help us raise funds for the school. Chinese-style decorations are also needed and can be dropped off at the front desk prior to the event. For job sign-up, please CLICK HERE.

CALLING ALL LTS MOMS! 
Friday, February 3

Let's congregate as many of us as possible on Fri., Feb. 3 at Bromley Mountain for a fun day of skiing or riding and to support Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center. Show a picture of your kid and ski or ride all day for a $20 donation to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center; 100% of the proceeds are donated! More details to come about meeting times and Après Ski celebrations.

PULLED PORK DINNER

Saturday, February 11 from 5:00-6:30 pm
The LTPA Friends of Athletics is offering a pulled pork dinner with all of the fixings  - baked beans, coleslaw, chips and pie.  $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. Proceeds benefit the fund for a new Hunter Field scoreboard.
