It was a rollicking and sacred time in the St. Mark’s sanctuary last Sunday night! The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir swayed and clapped in rhythm as they sang old-time gospel songs and spirituals. More than 200 souls listened and many clapped and swayed along, as hearts and voices were uplifted!
Many thanks for this inspiring concert go to the board of directors for the St. Mark’s Concert Series: Frank Williams, Arlene Dempster, Charles Ballinger, Marie Campilongo, Bob Hout, Connie Eitzen, Barbara Vergith, and Janell Poehling.
Along the walls of our sanctuary are entries in a new art show, featuring works by those under 18. There are entries from across the community, including from students at Marston Middle School and Clairemont High. Ever wondered what is on the mind of teenagers? These works give us a valuable glimpse into some young and creative imaginations! You’re also invited to meet some of the artists, at an awards presentation and reception this Sunday, January 22 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Judy Edelblute does an extraordinary job coordinating the St. Mark’s Art Festivals. Be sure to take a moment to thank her, and all the members of the Arts Festival Task Force: Dave Edelblute, Sylvia and Charles Dismukes, and Charles and RoseMarie Pierce.
This year we will continue to strengthen our community involvement and our partnerships with neighboring schools, the Community Christian Service Agency, Christ United Methodist Ministry Center, and International Relief Teams. And we hope to work with additional community groups and agencies.
For those of you unfamiliar with some of the work we’ve been doing, we’ll continue to write about it in the
Messenger, and we’re planning one or more events where we can share what’s going on and show some pictures.
