Church-wide Potluck
and Game Night

Hope you have all signed up for our Church-wide Potluck & Game Night.  If you haven't, it is not too late.  Find one of the forms that is flying around the church and sign up before 1/28/17.  If you can't find a form, call the church office (703) 451-1500 or email Carol [C.Stewart@FBCSpringfield.org], and we'll sign you up.  Besides bringing an item (or two) for the potluck, you are welcome to bring a favorite board game for after the Minute to Win It games.  If you bring a board game, just be prepared to lead or teach it and label it with your name.  We have over a dozen families signed up already, but we are hoping for a you to jump on board, if you haven't already.
Immediate need!!!
Empty cereal boxes that we can cut up for our Minute to Win it Games.  Needed by this Sunday 1/22/17, if possible.  Place in church office.
Children's Camp at CrossRoads      June 26-July 1
For children that are currently in 4th-6th grades.  Note the new time frame.  Put it on your calendar and let me know if your child would be interested in going.  We will have an interest meeting in February for parents of children that are interested in going to camp this year.  Keep your eyes open for more information.  Also, if you are interested in being a parent volunteer at camp that week, let Carol know ASAP.
Curriculum Available:  To all the group leaders, teachers and directors of adult programs and classes, please stop by the church library on Sunday morning before or after Bible Study to look at materials available to use.  These materials will be displayed in the church library on Sunday mornings for the next three weeks, January 8, 15, and 22.  Each morning, a librarian will be present to assist you with questions.

Managing Finances: Started on 1/15, join Don Pettit on Sunday evenings (6:15-7:45PM) for a 6 week series that teaches about managing the finances God has entrusted you with.  God Owns It All is the title of the material that will be used for this class and books are $12.  Email Don.Pettit@FBCSpringfield.org to sign up or with questions.
 
New Men's Study: Join Jason Mitchell on Wednesdays (6:45-8:00PM) for the series Ordinary.  This study, by Tony Merida, looks at how to make a powerful impact by practicing ordinary Christianity.  Email Jason@FBCSpringfield.org to sign up or with questions.
 
New Women's Study: Join Julie Zimmerman on Wednesdays (6:45-8:00PM) for the series Entrusted.  This study, by Beth Moore, looks at the foundations of our faith and how women can live out what God has entrusted to them.  Email Zimsrus5@yahoo.com to sign up or with questions.
Friday Morning Women's Studies: There are two opportunities just for women on Friday mornings starting at 9:45AM.  Jennifer Floyd (JWFloyd13@yahoo.com) will be leading a NEW bible study soon (TBA) watch for signs with more information, and Judy McCoin (Flota22@gmail.com) is leading a verse by verse study through the book of Romans.  Email Jennifer of Judy to sign up or with questions.  Childcare is provided for these studies.

Extended Session, our care for nursery and preschool aged children during the worship service, needs you! We're currently looking for more volunteers to play with and care for our kids so parents can be ministered to during the service. Additionally, if you are a parent whose child is in extended session, please consider volunteering occasionally to give back and to minister to other families. FBCS Missions Giving for 2016

In addition to the monies set aside for missions out of our weekly offerings, you gave generously above and beyond.  Because of you, people locally and around the world are having their physical needs met and are hearing about the life-changing love of Jesus Christ.

Save the Date!

May 27 - June 2, 2017 are the dates for this year's Builder's For Christ mission trip to Gatlinburg, TN.  Training in building skills will be provided.  Participants must be at least age 17.  Contact Rick Priest (leechem@aol.com) for more information.  

It's A Baby Shower!
For the next 2 weeks we will be collecting items to donate to Assist, a local crisis pregnancy center. These items will then be "purchased" by new moms with credits they earn by completing classes at the center. Please place unwrapped items in the pack-n-plays that are located near the sanctuary and the fellowship hall.  Thank you for supporting these women who choose life!

Needed items:
•  New 0-6 month footed sleepers/pajamas for boys and girls
•  New 0-6 month sleep sacks and swaddles
•  New infant teething toys and infant rattles
•  New infant lobe thermometers
•  New infant nail clippers
•  New crib sheets in neutral colors
•  New bassinet and pack ‘n play sheets in neutral colors
•  Newborn and size 1 diapers
•  New bassinets like the “Delta Sweet Beginnings Infant Bassinet” in neutral colors

Pray for Missions:

Pray for human trafficking victims, and pray the hearts of their abductors will change. It's "National Human Trafficking Awareness Month".  WMUV has recently commissioned a volunteer "HOPE: Human Trafficking Team".  Please call the "National Human Trafficking Resource Center" if you suspect someone is a victim: 1-888-373-7888.

Come visit Pack 1115 and Troop 1115!!  FBCS sponsors a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout unit... known for being among the best in the area.  All boys in 1st - 5th grade are welcome in the Cub Scout Pack, and boys in 6th-12th grade may participate in the Boy Scout Troop.  Both units meet on most Monday evenings in the Fellowship Hall (7:15 for Cub Scouts; 7:30 for Boy Scouts).  Visit www.Pack1115.com and www.Troop1115.com for the latest information.  Come out and support our Scouts!
Inclement Weather/Emergency Alert System:  Sign up to receive a text message about church activities when inclement weather or other emergencies occurs. Simply subscribe to the FBC alert messages, you need to text "Follow FBCSAlerts" to 40404 (do not enter the quotation marks).  You should then receive a confirmation text.  Then whenever an emergency occurs, you will be able to receive a text message.  The church will also be using the previously established communications practices during inclement weather, but the text message system provides an easy way to quickly receive information whenever updates are necessary.
