SYNOPSIS

Fresh out of the fryer comes Players’ January show, Superior Donuts by Tony Award written playwright Tracy Letts!
Arthur Przybyszewski [(p)Shub-er-shef-ski] is the proprietor of Superior Donuts, a donut store in present day Chicago. Neither he nor his business is aging well, being made redundant by gentrification and a plethora of Starbucks popping up around his neighbor. A small, loyal clientele keeps him barely afloat, but it is painfully obviously both Arthur and his store are fading into ignominy. Enter Franco Wicks, a young African-American man who brings with him youthful energy, a refreshing worldview, and his masterpiece, the great American novel. Through poignant, funny dialogue Arthur and Franco form a friendship that transcends age and race, transforming the lives of these two men. Yet Franco has a dark past, and as it begins to catch up to him Arthur is thrust into making decisions that will shape his livelihood, and the lives of him and Franco against the canvas of a changing Chicago.

Did we mention there will be donuts? (Yes, there will still be donuts.)

Be Tween will be a team effort, with lots of improv and exchange of ideas! Come be a sweaty freaky kid again!” Dealing with issues of queerness, gender, and sexuality, Be Tween is a comedic exploration of the discovery of sexuality.

A brief summary of Heathers: The Musical:

Heathers the Musical is written by award-winning team Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe. This musical is a hilarious dark comedy based on the 1988 cult classic film Heathers. Set in the 80s and opening in the spring of 2014, this musical discusses important modern day themes such as teen suicide, homophobia, mental health and gun violence. The play follows Veronica Sawyer through her senior year at Westerberg High, dealing with the most powerful clique at school, misunderstanding parents, football playing bullies and falling in love with the mysterious, dark and handsome new kid. Can the witty and charming Veronica survive her senior year without everything blowing up?

If you have any questions at all do not hesitate to email players.mdf@gmail.com!

Do you want to act, direct, or write, but have been worried about commitment? Here's your chance to get involved, meet some theatre folks, and have some crazy good fun with fellow artists!

HOW IT WORKS
Step 1: 3 playwrights (selected from a number of applicants) are given the first and last lines of an (as of yet) unwritten play. They then have only 24 hours to write that play.
Step 2: The playwrights meet with their cast and are given another 24 hours to put together and rehearse the show they have written.
Step 3: After these 24 hours of rehearsal, the now sleep-deprived casts perform their awesome shows for a full house of exuberant and eager audience members, and a panel of expert judges(!), in hopes of being selected as the superior play and living in immortal glory!

The chosen playwrights/directors will receive the first and last lines of their play on Thursday January 26th at 6:30pm.

I WANT TO WRITE AND DIRECT!
Explain why you would like to participate and include a writing sample (no more than 10 pages). The sample can be ANYTHING CREATIVE. Prose, poetry, short story, screenplay, song. We'll take them all! After reading your submission, if we think you are up to the task, you'll get an email back from us to get the ball rolling. Applications to write and direct in the competition are due on Jan 20th! You will receive the first and last lines on Jan 26th. Email tnc.artifact@gmail.com for more.

I WANT TO ACT!
Any degree of experience is welcome. The 24-Hour Playwriting Competition is a great opportunity for anyone and everyone to get involved... and it's super fun! Applications to act in the competition are due on Jan 22nd. Email tnc.artifact@gmail.com.
Auditions for TNC’s season closer “Stop Kiss” by Diana Son

About the Show
From the TNC Website: “The story of a first kiss disrupted by tragedy, Stop Kiss brings to focus the high stakes of queer relationships in the 1990s, as well as questions of intimacy, love, and friendships.”

Directed by Alex Levesque and Assistant Director Mary Jo MacDonald

Performance Dates: March 22-25, 29-April 1

When/Where are Auditions:
Sunday January 22nd from 12-3pm
Monday January 23rd from 6-9pm
In TNC Theatre (Morris Hall 017)
(With possible callbacks on Wednesday January 25th from 6-8pm)

Preparation:
You may choose to prepare a one-minute monologue in order to give us a better idea of your acting abilities. Other than that, please bring your enthusiasm and openness to trying new things. Here is a list of the characters in the show:

Callie Pax- A traffic reporter and long term resident of New York City.
Sara- A teacher who has recently moved to New York as part of a fellowship to teach in the Bronx.
George- Callie’s “friends with benefits.”
Peter- Sara’s ex-boyfriend, still living in St. Louis.
Mrs. Winsley/The Nurse- Mrs. Winsley is a witness of the attack on Callie and Sara, and the nurse is a nurse.
Detective Cole- detective assigned to investigate the attack on Callie and Sara.

While the characters in this show were written with specific gender identities integral to the plot, we believe that the gender identities of our actors do not need to match those of the characters. We would therefore like to encourage everyone to audition for any role(s) they would feel comfortable portraying.
