Bush to Beach event
For the past 11 years South Narrabeen SLSC has proudly run the Bush to Beach event, hosted over 600 Aboriginal children from the outback town of Brewarrina. 'Bre' is a remote town with a population of 1200. To qualify for the program the children must have strong school attendance and generally be a good kid. Each year South Narrabeen SLSC members, local businesses and the community have invest over 1000 voluntary hours, prepare over 600 meals, teach the kids CPR/first aid, expose them to a range of activities such as Tae Kwon Do, Circus workshops, surfboard riding and attend the Academy of Sport for activities like rock climbing and archery.

In 2017 the event will run over three days. On Friday January 27, 40 children and 8 Elders from Brewarrina arrive and keenly look forward to the weekend. Over the Friday and Saturday the children undertake the above activities. On Sunday the children compete with and against our local nippers where many friendships are forged between city and country kids.

We require proficient SRC and Bronze Medallion holders for water safety (Friday 27th January 9am to 6pm, Saturday 28th January 9am to 1pm and Sunday 29th January 9am to 6pm) If you can assist would you please email lifesaving@snslsc.org.au with days and times you can attend.

On Sunday all members are invited to an afternoon of live music and disco starting at 2pm with Club member Roger Shahani's band, Five Shades.
Rookie Weekend Away
This is an activity designed to engage with younger members in the Club through having a weekend away. It will encourage camaraderie and team work between the group which is essential with the transition to the senior Club to become a patrolling Lifesaver. On the trip the participants will be able to display the skills they have acquired through training for their Surf Rescue Certificate. They hope to pass their exams in February!!

It also strengthens the spirit of community service and the broader movement of Surf Life Saving within Australia. The trip will be at the end of April during the school holidays.

South Narrabeen SLSC will fund the trip this season and we hope to make it an annual event for our Rookies with the assistance of a sponsor.
