Dear Families,

The time is just flying by.  It has been another busy week at Saint Francis Xavier School with so much going on in every classroom. If you have a chance to take a walk through our hallways, you’ll see many creative displays by our students prompted by the famous “I Have a Dream” speech of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  A few samples of their artwork are included with this newsletter

I want to thank all of the parents who came for parent teacher conferences.  It so important for the students to know that we are all working together to provide them the best experience.  Please know that if you have questions about your student's school experience you can always reach out.  Feel free to contact me or the teacher directly.  We welcome the chance to talk and work with you.

Re-enrollment is in full swing.  In order to re-enroll you need to access your parentsweb account on renweb.com and complete the forms.  The discounted registration fee of $125 lasts until Friday, February 3rd.  After that date the re-enrollment fee goes up to $200.  If you have any questions about the process or any issue with it please do not hesitate to let me know.

Catholic Schools Week is coming!  Catholic Schools Week starts Monday the 30th of January and goes until Friday, February 3rd.  We will have a number of special activities  that week.  One big event to highlight is the community breakfast on Wednesday, February 1st, starting at 7:30 a.m.  That Wednesday has been declared Nancy Trono Day here at Saint Francis and during this breakfast we will have a brief assembly for her.  Nancy Trono has been volunteering in our library for 20 years and we will use this day to recognize her extraordinary commitment to our school.  We would be honored if you could take some time to join us for this wonderful event.

God Bless,

Eric Becker

Box Top Competition
We’re getting ready to start our next Box Top Competition. We’ll be collecting from January 23rd until February 10th. The two classes that bring in the most Box Tops (averaged per student) will win possession of the Traveling Trophies. Please send Box Tops to school in a baggie or envelope marked with your child’s grade or teacher’s name. Our last competition resulted in more than 4000 collections. Let’s see if we can do it again this round. If you have any questions or would like to know which products carry Box Tops, please go to www.boxtops4education.com, or email Sue Lajeunesse at lajeunessefamily@comcast.net.

This program is a great benefit to SFX, and the more families that participate, the more we can earn. In past years, our Box Top proceeds have been used to help purchase new mulch for the playground, a new milk cooler for the lunch room, and more. As always, we appreciate your help in supporting our students.

Thank you.

Girls on the Run 2017 at SFX
Girls on the Run at SFX in jeopardy of not having a retuning season Spring 2017.  We are in desperate need of coaches to continue our third year at SFX. If you have 1.5 to 3 hours a week to work with the girls, they would be most appreciative!  This has been such a successful program for SFX girls in grades 3,4 and 5.  We do not want to see it come to an end. With your help, we can make this season happen.  Please contact Stacey Zierak, zieraks@comcast.net, asap and follow the Register link below. SPORTS NEWS:

4th/5th Boys
SFX- 20, Christ The King- 23  - For those of you who missed it, the most recent CYO game for the SFX 4/5th grade boys vs. Christ The King at Rice High School on Sunday was an exhilarating, nail-biter!  Unfortunately, it seemed not to be our day as a score by the opposing team with just over 10 seconds left, combined with an offensive foul call in the waning seconds, let our chances slide away at half court.  The boys played their best game of the season and clearly show amazing improvements every game. Dallas St. Peter scored 10 points, Coleton Merchant and Owen Messineo added 4 each, and Sam Parris opened the scoring by hitting two-free throws in the opening minute.

It is sure to be a great game this coming Sunday when we square off with Mater Christi at Essex Middle School at 1:00pm.

6th Grade Boys
The 6th grade boys came back strong after a hard loss against St. Marks on Jan. 9th.  This past weekend they played St. John Vianny.  They played hard and played great as a team and came away with the win. The final score was 36-25. Seth Richards had 11 points, Carter Blanchard had 5 points, Luke St. Peter and Asher Schonfield both had 4 points, Ayden Johnson had 3 points, Logan Rivait, Jaidyn Lafond, Seneca Durocher, Kellen Bourgeois all had 2 points and Evan Havereluk had 1 point.  The boys were pumped to come back with this strong win and are ready for this Sunday's game.  Come cheer us on Sunday the 22nd , 3pm at Rice!

7th/8th Grade Girls
The 7/8 Girls played tough against a very tall and talented Mater Christi team on Sunday. The girls executed the offensive well and created many scoring chances with solid passes and drives to the basket, but could not convert on enough of those opportunities to come away with the win. Cassidy lead the scoring attack for SFX with five points, Larissa knocked down four, Anna had 2 points and Maelyn rounded out the scoring with one point.

The upcoming games are listed in the above calendar of events.  Come cheer the teams on!
