Sunday will be a good day for Good Shepherd. Please come and see for yourself! We will welcome The Rev. John Mocko, Director of Evangelical Mission for the ELCA who works out of the N.C. Synod office in Salisbury. Pastor Mocko will preach and speak to us about a redevelopment program to help us move forward with our ministry. Please come and give Pr. Mocko a warm Good Shepherd welcome!

REMEMBER! We will have ONE SERVICE at 10:30 a.m. Bring a covered dish and we will enjoy some good food and fellowship at the meal following the worship service. Council will have explanations of our ministries up and invites you to sign your names to ministries you may want to join! Sign-up sheets for worship servers will also be available.

Please join us as we move forward with being the loving, caring and serving congregation we have been for the past 135 years!

Youtherans hold food drive for CRO

After the holidays, the shelves at the Mt. Holly CRO are usually fairly bare. The Good Shepherd Youtherans are stepping up to help restock those empty shelves. They invite you to bring canned goods between now and Sunday, February 5, Super Bowl Sunday! Place your items in the baskets outside Pastor Roger’s office. On February 5, the Youth will have a quick lunch, then sort and pack your donations to deliver them to the CRO. All staple food items and household goods are welcome. Suggestions include: canned veggies, meats, soups, fruits, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, cereals, laundry detergent, dish washing detergent, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc. Please be generous. Our hungry neighbors need our help. Thank you Youtherans for taking the lead!

Youtherans to visit Woodlawn Haven

The next Youtheran meeting is Sunday, January 29 after the late worship service. They will join for a quick lunch then depart for Woodlawn Haven Nursing Home here in Mt. Holly. They plan to visit with the residents and invite them to make Valentine’s Day crafts along with them. This promises to be another great outreach project for Good Shepherd’s Youtherans. Mark your calendars youth and come be a part of all the great things that are happening!

Important Food Program Continues. . .

The Weekend Backpack Food Program continues with new volunteers. Michael Petko is coordinating the program with other core volunteers of Barry Jessen, Don MacKenzie and Tom Wallace. They invite any others who would like to join them in accomplishing this ministry of providing food for school children on weekends. Without our support, these children, 15 at present, otherwise would have very little if any food.
You are invited to join this Backpack Food Group on Tuesday, January 24 at 9 a.m. at the church to sort and pack the food for the month of February. Bins are stored then delivered weekly to a local school for distribution to the students in their backpack on the last day of the school week. Tom Wallace has made deliveries in January; Barry Jessen will handle deliveries in February. Your participation is welcome.

Important announcements you need to know

Sunday is the last day to pick-up your 2016 contribution statements. After Sunday the statements will be mailed. Please retrieve your statement to save the church the expense of mailing them. If you have questions about your contribution statements, please contact Nancy Ford, Financial Secretary. Nancy can be reached at 704-966-4534 or by e-mail at nancyford@bellsouth.net.

Annual reports are past due! If you haven’t turned in your report please try to get them into the church office this week. Thanks.

The Handbell Choir will not meet this week. More ringers are welcome. Also singers are needed for the Senior Choir. If you are interested in either choir, please speak with Cantor John Apple.

Confirmation classes resume January 25 at 7:15 p.m. Pastor Roger invites all the confirmation students to join him each Wednesday through February for these one-hour sessions. Have dinner before you come as no meal is offered.
