Lesson 1971: Passover Seder, Pt.3
At every Seder for 3500 years now, the youngest family member asks the same 4 questions.
Everyone was once the youngest in their family, so every Jew has asked these questions:
Why is this night different from all other nights (unleavened, bitter herbs, dip twice, reclining)?
The unleavened bread symbolizes purity.
The herbs remind us of the bitterness of slavery. By dipping Jesus identified Judas as the betrayer.
John 13:26; Matt.26:23; Mark 14:20; Luke 22:21
Parsley is dipped twice in salt water then eaten (Israel escaped Red Sea; army was swallowed).
Reclining & relaxing symbolizes freedom (no longer slaves); blessed assurance of redemption.
The Jews examined their lamb for 4 days; each of us carefully examines Christ before trusting Him for our own salvation.
Then the Jews applied the blood of the sacrifice to their doorposts. The angel of death passed over the houses that were protected by the blood of the lamb.
Every Jew decided to apply the blood that night; each of us must apply Christ’s blood by faith.
