Youth Program Update

Portland high school students recently learned from teaching artist and chef Joe Moreno in a workshop that combined culinary arts and gyotaku Japanese fish prints. Visit our facebook page to see photos from the workshop. In Central Oregon, high school students are participating in a three-part hip-hop and spoken word workshop series with February AiR Mic Crenshaw, which will culminate with a performance at Open Studios.

This coming weekend, all of our Portland students will come together at Portland Art Museum for a "Mini-Camp" Weekend Intensive that includes workshops in music video making, photography, college essay preparation, poetry, and environmental awareness.
March 26: Central Oregon Alumni Party

Our Central Oregon Alumni Party will be on Sunday, March 26 from 4 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Arts Center. All alumni students, teaching artists, mentors, and staff, as well as current Caldera 12th graders are invited to attend and connect. There will be food, crafts, a photo booth, and lots of fun!

RSVP to Meg Ball (Smallz) at 541.279.0818 or Meg.Ball@CalderaArts.org.

Welcome Youth Program Director, Karena Salmond!

Karena brings over a decade of arts education experience to Caldera, having worked with young people in out-of-school programs in the Midwest and the Bay Area. Prior to joining Caldera, she served as Program Director with San Francisco-based Performing Arts Workshop. Karena hails from Kalamazoo, Michigan and is proud to call Portland home after stints in Chicago and San Francisco. When not working, she can be found in neighborhood parks with her twins or at the occasional dance class. Karena believes in the power of art to create social change and Caldera’s strength in helping students develop their voice. Please feel free to email Karena and welcome her!
Bon Voyage, Moon Rock (Jon Larsen)

A part of Caldera for the past six years, Moon Rock has been a Middle School Mentor, Camp Director, and most recently our Education Director. He's been a constant in the lives of our youth and staff. It is with gratitude (and, of course, some sadness to see him go) that we say farewell to Moon Rock as he moves on to his next adventure–traveling.

We've set up a special email and Google Voice phone number (202.792.6255) for the Caldera Community to send appreciations to Moon Rock.
