FOR PETE'S SAKE "In Faith And Loyalty"
FOR PETE'S SAKE "In Faith And Loyalty"
12"LP - $9.60
REACT / RXR051v
**REPRESSED ON PINK VINYL**
OK. Pyramid Sound; Ithaca, NY; Anthrax-SOD-Testament; trying to draw like Pushead; Guav putting out that first Earth Crisis 7"; tattoos and GED's; Ronny James Dio down the road, halfway to Syracuse; late night punk radio on Thursdays; hating Boston for no good reason. All of the things that add up to one particular and specific moment in time, which in hindsight seems like endless good times. Sorta happily skips over the common denominator running straight down the line: life sorta sucked. Fuck your parents. Fuck cops. Fuck your teachers. And on. And on...
Nostalgia—nostos algos—literally translates as "our pain" which always seems the part the endless reunion show cycle/spirit of 88 seems to ignore. FOR PETE’S SAKE is a sorta magic trick: it sounds like the Hardcore you remember, but (even better) sounds like WHY you listened to Hardcore in the first place. And there's just nothing better than that, even when then there's nothing worse. ‘Cause, God knows (my God; the one with the horns) that's what all the good music does and did, then and now: got you through the worst shit.

**INDIE EXCLUSIVE COLOR STILL AVAILABLE**
Oakland, CA trio Super Unison features Meghan O’Neil Pennie (formerly of PUNCH) on bass and vocals, Justin Renninger (formerly of Snowing) on drums, and Kevin DeFranco on guitar. Formed in 2014, they released a self-titled EP on vinyl and cassette formats soon after. The EP was incredibly well-received and praised by publications far and wide, from Rolling Stone to Brooklyn Vegan. The band toured the western portion of the USA following the EP’s release, which included shows with Shook Ones, Self Defense Family, Coliseum, Dogs on Acid and more. As veterans of the Bay Area scene and beyond, Super Unison have become known for their incendiary live show in their relatively short time as a band thus far.
Super Unison have partnered with Deathwish to release their new album, “Auto”. The album was recorded at Atomic Garden Studios by Jack Shirley (Oathbreaker, Deafheaven, Loma Prieta). Like their self-titled EP, Super Unison’s latest offering is concise and intense with most frantic songs coming in at the two minute mark. Within “Auto”, Super Unison introduce a wash of discordant melody and texture into the fray. Keeping things fast paced and smartly aggressive at every twist and turn.

PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS "Prey"
12"LP - $10.70 / CASSETTE - $6.00 / CD - $7.00
DEATHWISH / DW193
**INDIE EXCLUSIVE COLOR STILL AVAILABLE**
Planes Mistaken For Stars formed in Peoria, Illinois in 1997, and relocated to Denver Colorado in 1999. From the outset, they were an artistic anomaly; carrying both a worn rust belt heart and a warm midwestern soul. Collectively they combined different kinds of musical rebellion; hardcore aggression, punk energy, and gritty rock n’ roll spirit into their own special noise. Ultimately laying the blueprint for today’s emotional punk rock resurgence.
"Prey" is the long awaited new album from Planes Mistaken For Stars. Produced and engineered by Sanford Parker (Wovenhand, Leviathan, Yob), "Prey" is a beautifully haunting return to form. In need of isolation to finish writing the album, founder Gared O’Donnell took to the road alone. Instead of finding a predictable muse, he found himself driving deep into the crumbling heart of middle America. There, Gared took up residence in decrepit motels, finding inspiration in the descending darkness surrounding him.
Chaotic opener "Dementia Americana" serves as a rude awakening with the lyrical crescendo of "Wake Up!" being shouted over and over again. It's as if the creators are fighting to emerge from the eternal tumble of a nightmare. From there, the next five songs are seemingly instant Planes Mistaken For Stars classics; "Til' It Clicks", "Riot Season", "F*cking Tenderness", "She Who Steps", and "Clean Up Mean". All of them are multi-layered, melodic, and infectious in a way that only they can be. These lead to the touching "Black Rabbit"; a stark acoustic number that shows Gared at his most vulnerable. "Pan In Flames" and "Enemy Blinds" then creep into view. Two powerful songs explore almost apocalyptic musical territory. These usher in the jaw dropping closer "Alabaster Cello" which ends with the lyrical mantra of "Now We Wake...". Signaling that the figurative slumber is over for this off kilter and brilliant cult status band.

Cold Cave is the creative rebirth of acclaimed musician and writer Wesley Eisold. Cutting his teeth in underground bands American Nightmare (Give Up The Ghost) and Some Girls, Eisold's body of work has truly effected a generation of listeners. Through constant cross-pollination Eisold has gained mass appeal, influencing underground and popular culture with his ever evolving artistic vision.
With an already prolific number of releases, Cold Cave has become a name synonymous with the contemporary resurgence of Darkwave and Synth Pop sub-genres. Deathwish are proud to announce “Full Cold Moon” from Cold Cave, now for the first time on 12”LP vinyl format (a CD collection was released on Eisold’s Heartworm imprint in 2014).

ALEX G "DSU"
12"LP - $13.75
RUN FOR COVER / RFC154v
Two years after its initial release on boutique Brooklyn label Orchid Tapes, Alex G’s fourth LP DSU will be reissued on Run For Cover Records this September. Considered by many to be the record that shone a spotlight onto the longtime lo-fi Bandcamp-favorite, DSU is an indie rock record empowered & enlightened by Alex Giannascoli’s bedroom-pop sensibilities. An acronym for “Dream State University,” DSU’s thirteen songs consistently reinvent indie-pop in a way that truly makes the album dream-like, not only because of the serene calmness of tracks like “Skipper” & “Boy,” but also in the hauntingly jarring mid-album number “Axesteel” & the kinetic swelling & pitch-shifting “Icehead." What DSU offers as a whole is a collection of songs that endlessly bend existing indie-rock tropes with Alex G’s sincere strand of otherness, presenting an early but ambitious portrait of one of the next great songwriters of our time.

CRYING "Beyond The Fleeting Gales"
12"LP - $13.75
RUN FOR COVER / RFC153v
Crying has been mostly reclusive since releasing the “Get Olde / Second Wind” double EP in 2014. Save for touring with the likes of Modern Baseball, Somos & Laura Stevenson over distant lands, the New York-based triumvirate has left a shroud of mystery as to when & how they will return. That being said, our heroes have returned to us with Beyond the Fleeting Gales, an album to heal our broken nation & realms beyond. The new album can best be described as Crying: Evolved - whether powered by the moon or crystals that a wizard found at a punk house or the sincere, unrelenting power of rock, Crying’s former formula of mixing motown melodies with outsider electronics & prog rock riffage is supercharged on this ten song monster of an album. Soaring & sweeping guitars, moody melodies, airy synth backdrops & an unrelenting drum performance come together like the fingers of a clenched fist to swing upward into the sky on Crying’s first proper album, Beyond The Fleeting Gales, available this fall via Run For Cover.

BEACH IMPEDIMENT / BIR025v
All the way from the city of champions, CONCEALED BLADE follow up their massive 2015 demo with thirteen more tracks of the pummeling hardcore punk that those aligned with the Braddock Hit Factory have been churning out for many moons now; keeping the emphasis on quality over commonplace, riffs over a complete lack of riffs, and really just hardcore over horse shit. This 12" platter is evidence that THE BLADE still ain't for the weak and is just as precise and cutting in the execution of their songs as they've ever been. DARK BLUE "Start Of The World"
12"LP - $12.50
ADAGIO / ADAGIO145v
Dark Blue follow up their debut LP, ‘Pure Reality’, with ‘Start Of The World’ (12XU) – a soundtrack of a decaying United States. Each song drips with the realities of atrocities happening all around us ; John Sharkey III (Vocals, Guitar) pushes Dark Blue far beyond the post-punk meets oi sound they perfected on their earlier releases, and adds elements of brit-pop and shoegaze. Recorded by Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, Nothing), ‘Start Of The World’ is a pop album that makes no apologies.
Boot stomping opener “Union of Buffoons,” sets the political tone for this album with an anthem for workers’ rights. Sharkey’s biting lyrics: “You can’t fight this, you can’t win…screw you once, they’ll screw you twice,” is a reference to human expendability in the face of deregulation and the stagnancy of labor rights. “Never Wanted to Hurt You” is a pop song in the highest order with guts and an undeniable chorus that would make Noel Gallagher jealous even at his most jaded.
The 50′s doo-woop and surf rock sound of “Bombs on the Beach” initially feels like a left turn for the band, evoking a playful innocence against a sunny backdrop. But the lyrics prove this is truly a Dark Blue song, tearing through any cheerfulness as jarring and abrupt as words can be to describe the reality of dropping missiles on a beach of unsuspecting Palestinian children. Sharkey’s voice is heavy with the despair of survivor’s guilt: “Now I’m holding my baby’s hand, as he lies bleeding to death in the sand.” This is another pointed song full of sentiment as much as it is an impassioned call for accountability for the crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
While this album shows off new and varying degrees of Sharkey’s vocal intensity, Andrew Mackie Nelson (Bass, Ceremony) and Michael Sneeringer (Drums, Strand of Oaks) shine, guiding the songs in ways other releases haven’t shown before . Tracks such as “Be Gone Everyone” and “Western Front” underscore just how comfortable the band has gotten.
‘Start Of The World’ is the kind of record that Dark Blue has always promised: a collection of smart, fully realized songs that tell real stories. With the world falling apart around us, Dark Blue continues to give voice to neglected perspectives, many unnerving but all necessary to hear. We need a defiant record like this to remind us that just as there was start to all of this destruction, there can also be an end.

03. I Never Wanted To Hurt You

WOE "A Spell For The Death Of Man"
12"LP - $12.50
VENDETTA / VENDETTA123v
"The realization strikes quickly; A Spell For The Death of Man is an atypical force. The haunting, oddly naked guitar that opens the record--perfectly painted in the "Solitude" referenced in the track's title-- is stark. Desolate. Profound, even. Mostly, it's real. A single guitar. Two minutes of truth or consequences. That's all that Woe needs to bury the seed.
The seed grows. That solitary guitar morphs into a fiery wall of blasting and trem--nothing special--but halfway in, man...the violent revolution begins. Woe's manipulator, Xos, breaks the song open, driving it into a storm of dust with thick riffage and insane drumming. This is full-on, fuck-you hitting, turning the tide into a headbanging, jawbreaking tsunami of blackness. A Spell... is absolutely massive, wreaking havoc in a manner that few (if any) USBM bands have previous.
Thrusting mightly, like a craggy Nightside Eclipse encrusted in crumbling punk nihilism, this album rarely relents. As the work of a single man, A Spell... is a nearly-obsessive vision of destruction (as well as its cathartic wake), but is devoid of theatrics and posturing. Xos' screams of vitriol fully embace the human/animal primalism that condemns our very existence, and his command of the riff is as organic as it is supreme. The ballsy, blackpunk sneer that climaxes "Longing Is All That Will Remain" (the album's true landmark) again spews nothing but honesty, albeit through mouthfuls of strained sinew and shards of bone. The nonstop venom that volcanoes from the core of "I See No Civilization" is of unmatched potency, instigating volume cranks and neck fractures with ease.
Woe takes the "depressive" tag that has been glued to Stateside blackness for the past few years and turns its head on an axis. Forcefully. While the deliberate torture of the closing track,"Memento Mori," sludges things up (down), it sounds almost anti-climactic when stacked against the rest of this white-hot tome. By comparision, however, so do the wares of those scrambling for the vacant USBM throne. Woe does not scramble; Woe lays stake. A Spell For The Death of Man is easily 2008's most criminally overlooked album, and is quite simply the most important black metal release in years--not by virtue of perfection, but of relevance.
A new dawn is upon us. Adjust accordingly." yourlastrites
