Brief Information of the Executive Committee Meeting of 21st January 2017

Dear Comrades,

central to the meeting of the ExC past Saturday was the first draft of the electoral programme of the Party Chairs. The debate, hereby, has been opened: over the next weekends we will organise four regional conferences with Katja (Kipping) and Bernd (Riexinger) at which – so we hope – the draft will be discussed with as many participants as possible. The four conferences will take place in Bergheim (29. January), Hamburg (4. February), Leipzig (11. February), and Frankfurt on Main (18. February).
At these conferences, as well as online on our webpage, we will furthermore host a competition for all comrades to be able to suggest slogans for the federal election campaign.

At the same time we will continue the debate on the electoral programme during our meeting on 25. and 26. February considering both the feedback from the regional conferences as well as hints and suggested changes of the PEC. Until the middle of March the draft of the leading motion will be developed. Committee members will then have the opportunity to submit amendments. At the meeting of 1. and 2. April the draft of the electoral programme will then be approved as the leading motion for the Party Congress from 9. to 11. June 2017 in Hanover.

Further information on the federal election campaign: the election committee, responsible for the operative planning of the campaign, has been constituted at the beginning of the year. The fundraising campaign for federal elections has been successfully kicked off. Already by 19. January we received donations of 101.467,17 euro. Many thanks to all contributors!

Among current issues internal security was on the agenda. Frank Tempel (MP) presented the preliminary state of the thesis paper „A good and safe life for everyone“. Contrary to the heated debate in the Great Coalition on possible consequences of the terror attack (of 19. December in Berlin) – ranging from ancle bracelets to preventive detention – here the topic is considered in a wider sense. As DIE LINKE we will give answers to the uncertainty of many people and the need for safety in society with proposals considering both public and social security.

The PEC assessed the 5th Congress of the Party of the European Left from 16. to 18. December 2016.

Solidarity with the occupants of Humboldt university

In a resolution the PEC declared its solidarity with the occupants of the Humboldt university demanding the further employment of Andrej Holm at the Institute for Social Sciences, a democratic academic life and the strengthening of social housing policy.

Friederike Benda informed about the international women's day alliance’ state of preparations. The Executive Board will decide on a call for the international women's day at its next meeting on 8th March.

Committee on religious and ideological questions deployed

For preparing decisions on positions of DIE LINKE regarding the relation of state and religious or ideological communities as well as the role of religion and ideologies on society, the PEC has deployed a committee. It consists of party members from different religious and ideological backgrounds, such as Christian, Jewish, Muslim, humanist, laicist, atheist, as well as secular. Various currents within the party are considered as well. The committee will be headed by Christine Buchholz, Daniela Trochowski, Kerstin Köditz, Harald Wolf and Tobias Pflüger.

More entries then ever since 2009

5.406 new members in 2016: This is a record for us since 2009! Thus, we can speak of a turnaround in membership development. We plan a plus in membership figures for 2017 and the upcoming federal elections.

The PEC took notice of the financial budget of 2016 and agreed on the personnel plan for 2017.

The report on the Cuba conference, which took place on 27. October 2016, was debated by the PEC. A further conference is being planned.

The PEC agreed on the further funding of the series of events „GeDRUCKtes“ with MP Gesine Lötzsch and guests in the Rosa-Luxemburg-room of the Karl-Liebknecht-house. From 2nd to 5th June „Pentecost with DIE LINKE 2007“ will take place at Werbellinsee.

The PEC agreed to support the campaign for decriminalising dump diving for left over food from grocery chains.

In solidarity,
Matthias Höhn
