Hello
Bodmin - no beasts!
A big thank you to Cathy Rozel Farnworth and David Woolley of Bodmin Moor Poetry Festival for awarding me a residency at Warleggan on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. No beasts, just plenty of owls and perfect writing weather - lots of rain - I wrote loads. I've written a little about the residency here, http://www.katrinanaomi.co.uk/residency-on-bodmin-moor
Favourite Japanese poets?
As some of you will know, thanks to the Arts Council/British Council, I'm going to Japan in the autumn to write, learn and teach. I'm putting together a list of inspiring Japanese poets - here's Shinjiro Kurahawa (thanks to Sasha Dugdale of Modern Poetry in Translation for this fine suggestion) http://www.poetryinternationalweb.net/pi/site/poet/item/23565/Shinjiro-Kurahara/. If anyone has any other suggestions re contemporary or older Japanese poets, please let me know. Thanks.
Workshops and Courses
Have you ever thought about collaborating with another poet or an artist? I'll be running an Arvon poetry and collaboration week, 'Serious Play', with Jen Hadfield in May. The course is at The Hurst in Shropshire. Arvon offers bursaries for its courses http://www.arvon.org/course/poetry-30/. My 18 Feb workshop 'Saying the Unsayable' at Verve Poetry Festival in Birmingham is sold out. Tickets for the Verve reading with Mona Arshi, Kim Moore and me are still available for 17 Feb, maybe see you there? http://www.katrinanaomi.co.uk/festivalseventsreadings-for-2017.
And you might like
Gladstone's Library is a Victorian library with bedrooms attached in North Wales. They appoint several writers-in-residence each year and applications are open now https://www.gladstoneslibrary.org/events/writers-in-residence. It's a great opportunity, it's how (and where) I wrote my Suffraggettes pamphlet Hooligans (Rack Press, 2015). And the wonderful Liz Berry is judging The Bristol Poetry Prize http://poetrycan.co.uk/comp-news/bpp16-form.html
All the best to you,
Katrina
