New Year, New Challenges

While we have been enjoying a summer holiday in the southern hemisphere, Pope Francis has been busy encouraging us to meet the challenges of this new year.

His World Day of Peace Message confronts the reality of a 'world war fought piecemeal' . He invites us to respond with active nonviolence rather than more violence. In his World Communication Day Message he urges us to communicate in ways that reject prejudice. He has reminded us that calling ourselves Christians without doing what Jesus taught - like helping the needy - is hypocrisy. And he found time to write to President Trump urging that the stature of the USA "be measured above all by its concern for the poor, the outcast and those in need who, like Lazarus, stand before our door."

We face the challenges of a new year with a new Provincial and Provincial Council. May they be blessed with courage, strength and support.

Day of Prayer, Reflection & Action Against Trafficking

8 February is the Feast of St Josephine Bakhita and the World Day of Prayer, Reflection and Action Against Human Trafficking. ACRATH provide a suite of resources to help you to mark the day. NZRATH provide a list of other special days on which you might take further action throughout the year.
Pope Calls for Active Nonviolence
Pope Francis says that we are engaged in “a horrifying world war fought piecemeal”. More violence cannot fix it, but will only cause further suffering, and even the physical and spiritual death of many people. The answer, he says in his Message for the 50th World Day of Peace, lies in promoting active and creative nonviolence.

Hypocrisy Most Condemned by Jesus

In response to a question, Pope Francis has said that hypocrisy is the sin most condemned by Jesus. Reflecting on recent world events he added: “It’s hypocrisy to call yourself a Christian and chase away a refugee or someone seeking help, someone who is hungry or thirsty, toss out someone who is in need of my help.”  Read more here.

Valentine's Day

The symbolism of the heart can sometimes be reduced to the sentimental and exploited for commercial purposes. How can we celebrate Valentine's Day with the bigger love of the Heart of God? Here are some ideas.

Communicating Hope and Trust

"I would like to encourage everyone to engage in constructive forms of communication that reject prejudice towards others and foster a culture of encounter, helping all of us to view the world around us with realism and trust."
