NHBC "Building for Tomorrow" Roadshow

We are very pleased to announce that we are supporting the NHBC in the delivery of their "Building for Tomorrow" roadshow for 2017.  Together with Geo Matters Limited we will be looking at the potential impact of changing standards on ground investigation requirements as introduced by EC7, BS5930:2015 and BS8004:2015.  We will be presenting across the UK in February and March, and look forward to seeing some of you there.

More details of the event can be found by following this link

Courses in February and March 2017

Details of two open courses in February and three in March can be found below.

Topics covered include structural design, geotechnics, report writing and professional qualification.
FINAL CALL  Mentoring for Engineering Geologists on Geotechnical Engineering, 7 February 2017 (£295 + VAT per delegate)
This popular 'long day' course provides the equivalent of 1.5 days training with just one day out of the office.  Targeted mainly at geologists and others working in geotechnics, the course covers fundamental soil mechanics concepts before applying the principles to foundations, retaining walls and slopes.

ICE Professional Review - Preparing for the Interview, on 21 February and 7 March 2017 (£295 + VAT per delegate)
Limited to 4 delegates and lead by an experienced ICE reviewer, each of these one day courses is for those sitting their professional review in Spring 2017. Each delegate receives guidance on the review process, has their own mock interview, and receives individual feedback following the course.

Introduction to Structural Design to the Eurocodes, 2 March 2017 (£220 + VAT per delegate)
The Eurocodes are an integrated set of standards for use across Europe, and all British Standards have been aligned to them.  This course will provide an overview of the Eurocodes before looking at the basis of structural concrete and steelwork design to EC2 and EC3, including worked examples.

Report Writing for Engineers, 8 and 15 March 2017 (£220 + VAT per delegate)
Skillful writing can provide a real business advantage.  Designed to minimise the impact on the working day, this two-workshop course runs late afternoon / early evening on both dates.  It will consider key aspects of technical reports including style and structure, and will look also at how to write good English.  The workshops will be practical and interactive throughout.

Ground Investigation Design to EC7 - The Essentials, 21 March 2017 (£125 + VAT per delegate)
With Eurocodes now referenced in the Building Regulations, and with BS5930:2015 and BS8004:2015 updated to accord with EC7, this half day course looks at the likely impacts of these changes on ground investigation design.  The course will review aspects such as changes in quantum, sample quality and reporting , and will include discussion around a design exercise.

Each of these courses is running in Chesterfield.

Discounts are available for group bookings or delegates attending more than one course.  Just call us for further details, to discuss your specific needs or to make a booking.

Open or Bespoke Courses - Which Are Best?

We regularly provide bespoke courses for individual companies, and have seen an increasing trend for these in recent years.  Which option is best though?  The simple answer is it depends on what you want  and the numbers you need to train.  If this is something that you need to consider then read on to see some of our thoughts on this question.
Open courses are often the first choice for most organisations when only one or two people need some specific training.  They allow delegates from a range of companies to interact and benefit from differing perspectives.  They are usually relatively cheap too, however other factors need to be considered such as travel and overnight costs.  Consider also whether the course will meet your specific needs as lack of fit can be de-motivational and reduce the return on investment.

In contrast bespoke courses allow staff to learn together and develop closer working relationships.  They will learn on a course tailored to their needs and the needs of the company.  Bespoke courses are more costly at face value, but after factoring in other costs they can become cost-effective for as few as four to five people.  Dependent on location a day course can be divided into two or three workshops over a few weeks.

Ultimately the choice is yours and only you can make the decision based on your circumstances.  We are always happy to discuss options with you - just call Andy Goodwin on 01246 807808 without obligation.
