Your future is important to us

Students are at the core of everything we do.

We are renowned for our extensive, well established A-Level and vocational courses and our excellent reputation for helping external students settle and thrive.

Our Sixth Form continues to achieve excellent results.

With a proven track record of academic success over two decades, students continue to secure places at top universities, Higher Level apprenticeships and employment.

Our dedicated Sixth Form area is set in extensive and attractive grounds. These include a Study Centre, Library, Computer Suite and Cafeteria. Students also enjoy the use of the school’s swimming pool, multi-gym and flood-lit courts.

At West Hatch we understand the demands on students in making the transition from GCSE to A-Level and Vocational study and we prepare them well for this.

Our tutorial programme helps them make informed choices as they flourish and move towards the next stage of their education or employment.

We work closely with students and parents to develop an A-Level Mindset and nurture the skills necessary for Key Stage 5 study.

Through a programme of tasks, activities and assemblies, our students develop the skills needed for independent learning, mastering revision techniques and a methodical approach to their work.

By joining our Sixth Form, students become part of a friendly and supportive community that works together to achieve success.

Our experienced Sixth Form team and subject teachers provide a high level of support. They challenge all students to become independent, enthusiastic and engaged in their learning which leads to them being both confident and successful.

Individualised Learning Plans and supervised study are given high priority.

Students are carefully monitored through progress checks and we operate extensive mentoring.

Our Honours Programme offers specialist guidance to support progression to elite universities and provides our students with a range of bespoke experiences to make their applications stand out from the rest.

Working with Oxford University students receive a two-year study programme, lectures from university lecturers, workshops, mentoring and an outstanding programme of support for UCAS applications.

Our Leadership and enrichment opportunities encourage students to take on a variety of key roles.

Head Boy or Head Girl, Prefects or Peer Mentors, Sports and Charity Ambassadors all provide them with transferable and valuable skills for the future.

Our Sixth Formers work alongside teachers giving added value to younger individuals or small groups of students.

Applications from our students to university and employment are greatly enhanced by opportunities provided such as the Extended Project Qualification, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and work shadowing and internships undertaken during their courses.

Students also undertake voluntary service and compete in local, national and university-led competitions, all adding considerably to their journey of personal development.

The future of every student is important to us, as are their individual aspirations. They develop the characteristics and qualities to achieve success at university or in further training and employment whilst making a worthwhile contribution to our school community and beyond.
