Students declaring majorsMajor Declaration and Meeting with Advisors

On March 2, first-year students will attend the annual Major Declaration Fair to formally choose a major and transition from their first-year advisor to an academic advisor in their major. This is a culmination of the exploration in their First-Year Seminar and other courses through the fall and into the spring term. “Still Deciding” is a perfectly acceptable option for students wishing to continue exploration with the first-year advisor. Students who have questions about Major Declaration should contact their First-Year Seminar advisors.

All students will be working with their academic advisors in March or early April to schedule courses for the upcoming academic year – summer, fall, J-Term and spring. Students and advisors will also be updating degree plans and discussing exciting opportunities related to their MC academic experience, such as internships or study abroad. Each student will receive an email from the Registrar’s Office with instructions and the date and time his or her registration window opens. Student questions about registration should be directed to the Registrar’s Office at 865.981.8212, and students who have questions about advising should contact their academic advisors.

For general questions about these topics, please contact Dr. Sharon May, associate professor of economics and director of academic advising, at 865.981.8343 or by email.

If you know any current high school seniors who might be a good fit for the Bonner Scholars program, please encourage them to visit the MC website or email Zane Dukes.

The Bonner Scholars program would like to remind current Bonner Scholars about the Summer of Service requirement. Each Bonner Scholar must complete two summer placements that total up to at least 280 service hours per summer. Summer placements can be either paid or unpaid, but they must be completed with a not-for-profit institution. Students are eligible to request support money, provided that they fill out and return a budget to the CCM by March 31. Both summer placement and summer support requests are due on March 31.
