Commodore's Message
February
Around SW Florida, January can be a tough month of sailing between cold fronts whether you're racing or cruising. Fortunately, the dozen PGSC boats that made the trip to Burnt Store for the 34th annual Golden Conch Regatta were greeted with favorable Easterly’s for the sail down, the races, and the sail back. Members at the Platinum Point Yacht Club did a great job hosting the two day Regatta. PGSC boats had great results earning nine out of fifteen awards in five different classes, nice sailing skippers!

Cruisers stayed close to their home port in January but that changes in February when a 4 day “Cheeseburger in Paradise” cruise is planned to Don Pedro.  Sign up online or come to the monthly meeting to find out more in person from the Cruising Captains.

After the general meeting this month is our annual Lasagna dinner, tickets are $5.00, bring a dish, BYOB.  If you don’t have your tickets contact V/C Tom Delaney .

We are just over a month away from hosting our 24th Conquistador Cup Regatta. Skippers can enter the races or fun sail, called the “Parade of Sail”. One of the door prizes at the Saturday dinner is a print of Willard Bond's, a favorite artist among avid sailors. A calendar of events along with complete event information can all be found online at 2017 CCR. Winner of the Sunday reverse start race will once again have their boat on next year's T-shirt, each entrant receives a complimentary T-shirt and one dinner ticket. Those ashore during the the races Saturday can join in the Wine and Cheese party hosted by the Cruising Committee. Proceeds from the Regatta contribute to our support of the three local youth sailing organizations located on upper Charlotte Harbor. All members wishing to sponsor can have their boat name printed on this year's T-shirt if done by February 19th.

If you’re not already taking advantage of the PGSC website I encourage you to do so.Thanks to webmaster George Adamczyk everything you need to know to cruise or race is available in one stop and a couple clicks.

The will be no Sail trim clinic before the February meeting but there will be before the March meeting. Main and Jib trim will be discussed using some different video products than we did in January.

On March first members that have not renewed their 2017 dues will unfortunately cease receiving communications from the PGSC. Please renew if you haven't and stay connected to the PGSC.
