Enough of you responded to last week's query regarding a monthly work session for long-term projects that I've added Project Circle to the calendar of recurring events. First session will be February 24, and we'll plan on meeting from 5-7pm on the last Friday of the month. The original idea was to focus on longer-term projects, but feel free to bring whatever you'd like to work on.

Social stitching times also include Thursday evenings, 5-9 pm, and Sunday afternoons from 1-4pm.

The Flax sweater class started last Friday--for half the group, this is a first garment! The Library Vest class is full.

A Basic Sock class is scheduled for February 22, March 8, and March 22. You'll have the option of working in either DK or fingering weight yarn, and the week in between sessions will allow either extra time if you choose the fingering weight option, or possibly time to work on your second sock. We will use the Churchmouse Basic Sock pattern: cuff down, with a traditional heel flap and gusset construction. $30 + materials.

The Simple Collection

The sweater class currently in progress is using one of the patterns from Tin Can Knits' Simple Collection. This series of free patterns is designed to help you expand your knitting skills, on a range of projects: baby blanket, scarf, mitts, socks, cowl, hat, pullover in two yarn weights, cardigan, and most recently, a shawl. The patterns feature technique tutorials, and a wide range of available sizes.

Shown here are shop samples: Flax in Malabrigo Rios, Malt in Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky, and Barley in Simplinatural.

Vivacious DK and SimpliNatural

Vivacious DK from Fyberspates arrived last week. We've got nine great colors--stop in and check them out. This is a lively DK with a firm twist; expect excellent stitch definition. (Cables, anyone?)  You get 252 yards of machine washable merino in each 4 oz skein.

Simplinatural is such a lucious blend--merino, alpaca, and silk. A couple of color packs are arriving with my needle order today. It's perfect for accessories--I've worn my Super Cupcake Cowl every day this winter. (And I do mean EVERY day.)

Daelyn Pullover

I'm currently working on the torso of the Daelyn Pullover in Soft Donegal. I love both the yarn and the pattern, and because I knit the sleeves first, I'm done when the body is done! (Well, I will have to add the neck edging, but very nearly done.) As Clara Parkes discussed in her review of the yarn (also linked in last week's newsletter), Soft Donegal feels fine enough while you're knitting it, but is transformed in the washing. I have a swatch that demonstrates how the fabric relaxes and blooms, and I can't wait to give the whole sweater its first bath.

Soul Warmer Cowl

I've also started Soul Warmer, a sampler cowl designed by Justyna Lorkowska. I'm using a mini skein pack from Phydeaux Designs; other options would be Cheshire Cat Fingering mini skein packs from Wonderland Yarns or Malabrigo Lace held double. Hoping to offer this as a class; I'm waiting to hear back from the designer with permission.

Until next week!
