Advancing Australia's VET Sector

Curated industry news from RTO Advance. #1 2017

Dear friends and colleagues –

After a year of constant flux in the Australian vocational education and training industry and many regulatory changes, we are all ready for a positive step forwards together this year.

Kit McMahon from ACPET has noted
this collaborative industry approach is already in force, with many of you stepping up to assist displaced students from colleges that have closed. We are fully supportive of ACPET’s new Student and Trainer Activation portal, and think it’s a wonderful initiative for supporting students to provide them with great options for securing their future.

A reminder to all that ASQA’s annual CEO Declaration of Compliance is due by 31 March 2017. We have created an easy-to-use RTO Compliance Checklist, with 14 steps to help you complete your self-assessment and to make sure that your Registered Training Organisation is meeting the compliance expectations that ASQA is looking for.

Our feature article this month highlights an interview with Jack Delosa from The Entourage in CEO Magazine. It has been truly great to see this young man take his education institution for entrepreneurs to the next level over the last few years. This article gives Jack’s interesting perspective on the up-and-coming generations’ dissatisfaction with current education models and traditional career paths. Definitely one to watch!

Best regards

Interview with Jack Delosa of The Entourage | CEO Magazine

Founder of The Entourage, Jack Delosa, discusses education models, entrepreneurship and why you can’t run a business on
‘love, trust and pixie dust’.

“Today’s world of business looks vastly different to 20 years ago. As baby boomers transition into retirement, millennials have risen through the ranks as the new corporate leaders and new business founders. And as the flow of veterans steadily continues to travel downstream, a tide of bright young entrepreneurs is rising all over the world. But age is not all that separates the two generations — gen Y and gen Z bring with them whole new values, working styles and education needs — and no-one sees this better than the founder of one of the most disruptive education platforms for entrepreneurs, Jack Delosa.”

Boundaries between the VET sector and Higher Education sectors 'confused, contested and collaborative'

"This paper provides a brief commentary on the relative trend change and potential trajectories of Australia's vocational education and training (VET) sector compared with the higher education sector. This provides the necessary context for more detailed exploration of the multiple issues that lie at what might be described as the 'boundaries and connections' between these two components of the tertiary education sector."
