Message from the President
I was really honoured to be elected as your President at the Club’s AGM in January. I am now delighted to welcome you at the beginning of what I know will be a wonderful year for all of our members during 2017.
I am particularly looking forward to interacting with as many of you as possible during the year, whether it be in a sporting or social environment – hopefully both!
We have such wonderful sporting and social facilities in an ‘oasis’ in the middle of Dublin 4. I would encourage all of you to set a resolution for 2017 to participate in as many activities as possible including the wide range of Social events that are arranged throughout the Year.
I would also encourage you to support our teams in competition this year. I have no doubt that all of our teams would benefit from the presence of fellow members at the various matches.
So, lets all have a great year in 2017 and make sure we get full benefit from our membership in Elm Park!
Mens Golf in February
A message from Men's Captain Declan Corcoran
The Lady Captain Mary Boden and I were delighted to deliver two balls each on the green to the delight of all who attended the drive in, and thank you all very much for your support on the day. The charity raised over
€1,000 for the Laura Lynn Foundation. The golfing season is getting under way with the Winter League and thanks to the organising committee of Dave Duberry, Don Higgins, Michael Tighe, Peter Byers and David Brophy who are looking after this event.
3 hours 40 minutes
is the target time that the Men’s Golf Club committee estimate a singles round of golf should take. We will be launching the faster pace initiative (FPI) again shortly. All members are asked to be mindful of their pace of play so that the enjoyment of our premier pastime is enhanced for all.
Sponsorship
Ahead of our Invitationals that start in May, the Men’s Golf Committee is seeking sponsorship to run these events. Sponsorship offers a  good opportunity for individuals and businesses to advertise their companies as they  provide good exposure in a premium club at a moderate cost. Please contact me or one of the members of the Men’s Golf committee if you are interested in sponsoring an event.
Interclub competition
Our interclub campaign has got off to a positive start with two wins in the Darcy Cup (Senior Cup panel) over Woodbrook and Bray. Our Teams Co-ordinator, Niall O’Connor, has appointed all managers at this stage and let’s all get out to support our teams in their various campaigns this year.
Please support our teams!
Ladies Golf for February
There was a fantastic turn out for our Captain’s Drive-in on the 14th Jan.  With our grand entrance in our vintage car, the welcoming toast with our new club President, Ronan O’Neill, entertaining live music, some nail biting shots onto the 1st green and the lovely mulled wine to warm us up.   Afterwards we had a wonderful meal and entertainment which was enjoyed by everyone, I hope this is the start of a great year for us all in 2017.
Competition News
The Spring Lamb Team competition got off to a flying start 14th/19th Jan and runs over the next six weeks culminating on the final competition 18th/23rd Feb. The cold blustery weather probably favoured team Austria on Thursday 27th while team England was overheard sheepishly seeking a Lambexit!  Competitions are running over 12 holes, weather permitting, using the new 12 hole ladies card. Appreciate if players would put their team name on their competition cards as this greatly assists the competition secretary when doing results and the team captains have requested that the players be encouraged to 'Play and Play often’!
The Ladies 4Ball Match play Club Qualifier will be on the 4th/9th March providing a very enjoyable opportunity to compete in 4Ball combination.
Interclub Team News
Nives Collins is standing down as Team Co-coordinator after giving many years of superb support to the Elm Park teams and has handed over to Antoinette Toole whose spreadsheet skills are legendary.
The 2017 Elm Park Team campaign is underway.   The lists are posted and are filling up quickly, the AIG Cups & Shields draws have been made and the Draw Sheets are on the notice board and also available on the ILGU website.
Our first match gets underway shortly with the Minor Cup team in action.  This match is taking place on Sunday 5th March against Rathfarnham on a “home and away” basis commencing at 1.00pm.

Monday Ladies
Breige Fanning, our Monday Captain, would like to remind you of the Monday draw time at 9.45am catering for 12 players on a first come first serve basis. The annual sub of €5 is eagerly anticipated each time the white box is opened!  The “At Home” competition is on Monday 3rd April with dinner and prize giving on the 10th.
The Monday Ladies Committee are gathering archive material on the Monday Ladies, specifically from the early years up to 1984.  If you have any historical information in relation to Captains or other information, Briege and her committee would be delighted to hear from you.
Junior Golf News
The start of a new year sees a change in personnel and title with the committee representing the boys & girls renamed as the ‘Junior Golf Management Committee’ (JGMC).Yvonne Sheedy has joined the committee of Anne Cooke, Jacqui Tripp & Bernie Grogan with Anne Cullimore taking a well earned rest.  Ger Scaife is the Ladies Golf representative. Coaching will recommence next month & the Winter League Match play dates will be available shortly.  This competition, run by Milltown GC, will have an under 15s and under 19s section.  Bernie Grogan will be looking after the girls’ events and is confident of great performances from our girls who, under the tutelage of our Pro Peter Morgan, are playing super golf.

Update on Project Nutley
The Steering Group for Project Nutley have met eight times over the past two months to develop and fine tune the Design Brief which is now on the Club’s website. We met with the architect and project manager in the last week to clarify our requirements, who are now considering options. We have emphasised the importance of integrating Nutley House into the new build. In  the meantime, we are working on a range of issues, finance, disruption, consultation with members.  As far as the schedule is concerned we are very much in the hands of the architects and other building professionals. However, we are working to an early summer target date for a presentation to all members in an EGM. On behalf of the Steering Group I wish to thank you for your ongoing feedback and we look forward to working with you to progress the design concept.
Jim Slevin, Chairman of the Steering Group (Project Nutley)
