THE SOCIAL VIDEO REVOLUTION AND THE INCREASING NEED FOR SUBTITLES

According to Cisco, in 2017 video will account for 74% of all consumer internet traffic. Suggesting that brands and individuals who have something to say online will be doing so through video content.
Small and large businesses who fail to incorporate video into their marketing communications, are likely to miss opportunities to engage with their customers and potentially lose market share.
A 2016 survey by the Web Marketing Video Council found that 61 percent of businesses are using video as a social marketing tool. In the previous year, 66 percent of those businesses were not using video at all. That is some remarkable growth and it all boils down to the one thing that social video can do and traditional advertising cannot — sharing. As long as you can engage viewers, they will share your video with others and so on. This is the holy grail for every social video campaign.

Interesting stat: 6 billion hours of video is watched on YouTube every month. Facebook now sees 100 million hours of daily video watch time.

The introduction of auto-play on facebook videos has really increased the watch time on this particular platform. However, many brands have failed to realise that the video is muted until the user decides to turn the audio on. What this means is that a huge percentage of viewers on facebook are watching video with no sound and as a result not hearing your message.

So what's the solution? Many video content producers are now adding subtitles to any social video to ensure they are fully engaging with their audience. As a business who provides subtitling services, we have seen an increase in requests for subtitles and in particular English subtitles.
