"SOUPER" BOWL SUNDAY: Whether your team will be New England or Atlanta, everyone wins when there is enough food to share with all who are in need. Help us to stock our food pantry by bringing cans of "hearty" soup containing meat (Progresso or Campbells') between now and (especially on) Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5.
Remember that pop-top cans are helpful for latch-key children and homeless who may not have access to a can opener.
We want to build a wall of cans around our altar table to help us ward of hunger in our community!
SCHOOL SUPPLY RELOAD! We’ve reached the second half of the school year, so we’re reloading and replenishing needed school supplies for our partner school, Glen Arden Elementary.
If you’d like to help, please bring: #2 yellow pencils, wide-ruled notebook paper, markers, crayons, scissors, Band-Aids, and Kleenex to place in the collection box located in our Church Commons area.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY leadership will meet in the Events Center on Friday Feb. 10 at 10am for a dedication event of Shiloh homes. Come and join us!
B'MORE's ANNUAL PLANNING RETREAT will be Saturday, Feb. 11 at 9:30am in the Events Center. Lunch and snacks for the day will be provided. Join us to play, pray, and celebrate together as we refine and extend our church vision and flesh out the church calendar for the coming year.
2016 GIVING STATEMENTS are available for pickup again this Sunday in the Commons Area.
UPCOMING GEMS! (GREET-EAT-MEET-SWEET!) Please let Anita know if you are interested in hosting a dinner at your home or in the Events Center in the next 3-4 months. ageasayles@gmail.com 828-216-6591
UMW MONTHLY MEETING is Sunday, Feb. 12 at 12:15pm in the Events Center. Join us to hear guest speaker, a retired deaconess, tell us about her ministry with ex-prisoners. Bring your own lunch.
BUMC's 2nd VALENTINE'S FRIENDSHIP BRUNCH & FUNDRAISER is Sunday, Feb. 12 with brunch from 9:15-10am in the Church Commons. We'll also have a Valentine's Silent Auction Fundraiser until 12:15pm to benefit repairs and enhancements to our church facilities.
Do you have a donation for the silent auction? This coming Sunday, Feb. 4, is when we'd like to receive all baskets/items being donated (you can drop them in the staff office beside Sonny's office). Our hope is that each team or small group of any kind would donate at least one basket. So please let us know what you and your team, Sunday School class, committee, friendship group, family, etc., are able to do. If you need more time beyond Feb. 4, let us know. Also, we have various decorative baskets and tissue paper available for your use (or we can do the arranging for you-just leave your items). Some of the baskets already prepared will be displayed in the Church Commons this Sunday so you can see what is available and begin to plan your bidding strategy for next week.
Bringing a dish for the brunch? Please remember to bring your dish between 9-9:15am on Feb. 12. Tables will be set up in the lobby outside the sanctuary so everyone can snack and start bidding without interfering with either worship service.
The event is sponsored by our Care Team. Feel free to contact Anita Sayles at ageasayles@gmail.com or Barbara Lewis at ashevillemount@yahoo.com for information.
30 DAYS OF JOY! If you haven't seen it already, the church Facebook page is sharing daily nuggets of wisdom and meditation exercises during this series. Use these to daily opportunities to sustain your JOY every day for the next month. (You can also find this information on our church website.)
You deserve unshakable joy in your life this new year! While you are on social media, we encourage you to link and share the “Joy” exercises and post with ALL those you know in Asheville and beyond.
GROUP MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY: We are looking for a Sunday School Class, Bible Study, or church family who would be willing to serve food and clean up afterwards for one Thursday night a month at our weekly Recovery Asheville Service.
The food is ALREADY PREPARED, so you only have to turn on the ovens (about 4:45), heat up the food, and put it out for self-serving from 6-6:30pm, with cleanup afterwards. Providing a rotation of servers keeps our volunteers fresh and excited about the growth of the program. To volunteer, call the church office or talk with Pastor Sonny.
GET CONNECTED—SMALL GROUPS OPPORTUNITIES!
A major point of emphasis for our church in 2017 is the development of meaningful open-share small groups. Join a group and grow together physically, spiritually and mentally.
- B'MORE's 'N RAPPORT Small Group meets on WEDNESDAY from 5:15-6pm (church office area) where we continue to discuss Sunday's sermons in application to our lives.
- Emmaus Small Group continues each Wednesday after choir at 7pm with Doug Morris and Chuck Taft.
- A Lenten Study will begin Wednesday, March 1
- Contact Pastor Sonny for information on an uptown, mid-week men's lunchtime Life Group that may be forming ahead.
MOVIES AND MORE, SUNDAY, MARCH 5 “Youngish” Adults are going to see “The Shack” at a local movie theater. Afterwards, we’ll go someplace nearby for refreshments and conversation.
