EDITORIAL
Estamos terminando el primer quinquemestre con pruebas del tercer parcial y prontos a comenzar los exámenes finales. A pesar de ello, las actividades no se detienen; en SEK Los Valles no descansamos.
Tuvimos recientemente el English Day, actividad que fomenta el uso del idioma inglés de manera entretenida y lúdica. Este año el tema fue la "Red Carpet de Hollywood", por un día nuestros niños se sintieron estrellas de cine. En Primaria iniciamos las acampadas, instancia que da la oportunidad a los más pequeños de relacionarse directamente con la naturaleza y el medio ambiente y pasar una noche acampando con sus compañeros.
Pero no sólo el Colegio organiza actividades, también el Club de Alumnos y los estudiantes de último curso han planificado el "Twin Day" y el bautizo a los niños de Octavo de Básica, respectivamente. Eso también es parte de la enseñanza que transmite nuestro Colegio, dando responsabilidades organizacionales a nuestros alumnos.

ENGLISH DAY

Our students had the chance to experience the use of English through discussing, watching, and role-playing their favorite episodes of films like Harry Potter, X-Men and Star Wars, working in classroom activities related to movie genres like riddles and crosswords to enhance their vocabulary. It was a wonderful day for everyone to see fellow students dressed up and walking on the red carpet like Marilyn Monroe, Princess Leia and Darth Vader from Star Wars, and silent movie stars like Charles Chaplin.
The main goal of the English Day is to encourage students to speak and practice English skills in a fun and entertaining way. To mark the event, several activities were organized to sensitise our students on the importance of English Language. English brings us the opportunity to understand the world around us, and gives us great advantages of communicating in a world wide language.
The Hollywood Red Carpet was celebrated on Wednesday, January 18th as part of our “English Day” at SEK Los Valles. Our students felt like real famous celebrities by walking the Red Carpet just like Hollywood stars.

ACAMPADAS ESCOLARES

A partir del 18 de enero, los alumnos de Preescolar y Primaria tendrán la oportunidad de experimentar nuevas aventuras en la acampada escolar. No solo dormirán en carpas, sino también tendrán una caminata nocturna, fogata de confraternidad y cabalgata, entre otras sorpresas.
El Ilaloa Adventure, ubicado en el sector de Cununyacu, fue el lugar elegido para compartir experiencias enriquecedoras, que fomenten la autonomía personal del alumno y le permitan establecer un mayor contacto con el entorno natural y social.
Los niños de Segundo a Cuarto de Básica fueron los primeros estudiantes en disfrutar momentos inolvidables en compañía de sus profesores.

NOVATADA SECUNDARIA

Los estudiantes de Tercero de Bachillerato, el pasado viernes día 20 de enero, realizamos varias actividades con el propósito de bautizar a nuestros compañeros de Octavo de Básica y darles la bienvenida a la sección Secundaria.
Los preparativos nos llenaron el corazón de alegría, ya que recordamos todo el camino que hemos trascurrido en el Colegio. El bautizo fue una ceremonia de felicidad y sorpresas. Cada estudiante de bachillerato apadrinó a su respectivo ahijado con el fin de acompañarlo en esta transición.
Los juegos permitieron generar un vínculo entre los más grandes y los más pequeños de la sección. Ni la lluvia fue un impedimento para poder disfrutar de esta maravillosa actividad.
Esperamos que esta convivencia permanezca siempre en la memoria de nuestros queridos octavos, porque sin lugar a duda nosotros no la olvidaremos nunca.

TWINS' DAY

In order to raise money for future activities, the Students' Council organized an innovative event named “Twins’ Day”.
It took place on January 20th and it was really rewarding to see students of all sections and even teachers dressed alike to their peers. Besides raising funds, the main purpose of such event was to increase the spirit of fellowship around school where all the participants were able to see far beyond differences to pinpoint similarities and common likes. Indeed, it was a perfect occasion to enjoy a different day which motivated the interaction among friends.
Full of enjoyment and satisfaction, the Students’ Council opened its agenda for 2017 because the “Twins’ Day was without any doubt a complete success.

RECEPTION AND PRE-SCHOOL ENJOYMENT

The children in Reception and Pre- school enjoyed a Science afternoon investigating different materials and solutions. In their experiment they had lots of fun mixing paint with foam to see how the mixture felt and to see what changes took place when they added more paint. It certainly was a messy experience but the children learned lots and had so much fun!

We introduce our four Norwegian exchange students to the International School of Helderberg community! Lars Fredrik, Emil, Jakob, and Iselin hail from Sǿrumsand High School in the east of Norway. They are excited to learn and share their experiences in South Africa.

One of us... won the Norwegian Ballroom Dancing Championships in 2011.
One of us... fell on the ice in fourth grade and lost two front teeth (All I really wanted for Christmas that year was my two front teeth… )
One of us... spent four whole days at a camp learning how to roll dice – watch out I’ll slay you at any game of ‘chance’.
One of us... desperately wants to be a professional gymnast but I can’t possibly cope with the thought of having to wear a skin tight leotard.
