Dear readers,
Only a couple of weeks into the new year and MHE is already working actively to deliver on our priorities. As part of our lifespan approach to mental health, our first event this year will take place in the EU Parliament early February and will focus on Active Ageing. I hope to meet many of you there! The revision of our 2012 report “Mapping Exclusion” has also started thanks to support from the Open Society Foundations. This revised version prepared in partnership with the Tizard Centre at the University of Kent will provide an updated comparison of mental health laws in Europe on deinstitutionalisation and community-living and will also include new elements on forced placement and treatment, as well as the use of restraint and seclusion. We believe that this will be a useful contribution, helping to shed light on existing practices and policies.
Mental health in the workplace and access to the labour market remain at the core of MHE’s work. New initiatives on health and safety at work were just launched by the EU Commission and the Social pillar is the newly proposed European framework aiming at reforming social and employment policies at national level. MHE is actively involved in these discussions and have some interesting activities planned for the coming months. It is a pleasure for me to be back at MHE and I look forward to working with you all this year!
Maria
