Lexington Mayor Jim Gray delivers his State of the City Address.

Lexington is a city on the move.

Thanks to the Lexington Forum for recently hosting the annual State of the City address, giving me the opportunity to update the community on our accomplishments, and our challenges.

The topics ranged from the growth and strength of our economy, to workforce training, to investments like Town Branch Commons or the Historic Courthouse, to public safety. You can read or watch the speech here.

Here are the closing paragraphs:

"What is the state of our city? Lexington is a city on the move.

Our future is promising. We have achievements to celebrate, momentum to build on and work to do. Of course there are challenges. There always are.

But I want to say I am honored to serve as your mayor and to work with all of you and with the hundreds of thousands of committed citizens throughout our city.

Together, let's keep moving forward and building a great American city right here in Lexington."

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray joins UK President Eli Capilouto, Councilmembers and thousands of citizens for the annual Martin Luther King Day Freedom March through downtown Lexington.

Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr.

Inspiring is the word for this year’s Martin Luther King  events … wonderful music and powerful words. It was a special honor to hear from Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, III, from Chicago.

Audrey GreviousAs we marched through downtown, I was reminded of Audrey Grevious, a Civil Rights pioneer in Lexington. We were saddened by her recent death, but her work lives on in our city.

Thanks to all of those who worked hard to make this year's MLK events a success.
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray joins Bluegrass Order of Police Lodge 4 President Sgt. Jason Rothermund; Max Appel, Southland Church; KY COPS President Brandy Durman; Councilmember Amanda Mays Bledsoe; UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and Lexington Police Chief Mark Barnard to thank Lexington's law enforcement community.

Thank you, law enforcement
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was an opportunity to say thanks to our police officers, sheriff's deputies, corrections officers, state and federal officials and constables … our law enforcement community … for their work to keep us safe.

KY COPS President Brandy Durman, widow of Lexington Police Officer Bryan J. Durman, who died in the line of duty in 2010, organized the event. Councilmembers Fred Brown and James Brown stopped by to add their thanks, as well
.
Mayor Jim Gray joins Councilmember James Brown and Geraldine Sykes, widow of Harry Sykes, to unveil new Harry Sykes Way.

Unveiling Harry Sykes Way
Harry Sykes’ leadership and service made Lexington a better place. As Lexington's first African-American city commissioner, mayor pro tem and vice mayor; and as a co-founder of the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County, he broke new ground in our city.

We’ve renamed a Lexington Street in his honor. “Harry Sykes Way” (formerly Red Mile Place) is home to many of the city’s services for young people.

We recently celebrated with his widow, Geraldine, other family members, and councilmembers
Mayor Jim Gray joins Kristi Farmer Lykins and Councilmember Bill Farmer, Jr., to present a proclamation to their mother, Jean Harbett Farmer, on her 90th birthday.

Happy birthday
Jean Harbett Farmer celebrated her 90th birthday a few days ago.

Jean has been a part of the Chevy Chase business community for over 60 years, working nearly every day at the jewelry store that she and her husband, the late William Farmer, Sr., built into an outstanding local business and Lexington tradition - one that continues today.

Congratulations to the entire Farmer family, and happy birthday, Jean!
