NADIA ROSE

WED 20 APR

More than at home spitting unforgiving bars over these would-be intimidating beats, Croydon’s Nadia Rose hit the internet hard by rapping over two-well known tracks: Mila J’s ‘My Main’ and Wiley’s ‘Eskimo’. Once she started releasing ‘D.F.W.T’ and ‘Mufasa’ not just her flow but what she spat mattered, dropping lyrical bombs that would please Semtex, Mista Jam & Annie Mac. Brimming with confidence and ready to stare down anyone in her way this should be a night to not miss in April.

JORJA SMITH

MON 03 APR

Walsall born Jorja Smith takes her influences seriously. Brought up on a blend of Trojan Records boxsets, Curtis Mayfield and Damien Marley, Jorja’s music is a mixture of social and personal commentary. Similar to her nearby Brummie bredrin The Streets, Jorja moved to London to hit the big time after finishing her A-Levels in 2015. Her first track ‘Blue Lights’ she was name-checked by fellow musicians Skrillex, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal and Drake. Head down in April to see her push things forwards.

Jean-Baptiste on the street

SURREAL STORIES

You may have noticed a set of photos popped up on our Great Eastern Wall Gallery last week. These stark shots are the work of Jean-Baptiste Courtier, curated by Wren Artists as part of the 'Stories' series. Jean-Baptiste's photographic motif is to put incongruous figures or objects in rural settings, he's more than delighted to have his work out on the street "I like the idea of displaying pictures in the streets which are not adverts. Ideally, we should have a better balance between ads and art in the street and I’ll be sure to ask Google to make a new run with their car!"
