FEBRUARY

NEWSLETTER 2016

"February, a form
Pale-vestured, wildly fair,—
One of the North Wind's daughters,
With icicles in her hair."

~Edgar Fawcett, "The Masque of Months," c.1878

LETTER FROM

THE DIRECTOR

"Oh, Britt, come look at this one!" My mother has always enjoyed pointing out the fascinating things in life. Coming up beside her, I saw what caused the reaction: a barred owl with its deep brown eyes looking right back at us.

The encounter was one of many my parents and I enjoyed during our afternoon at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. From the hands-on learning to the self-guided tour of birds of prey, VINS does a terrific job of engaging all ages.

The visit, my choice way of celebrating my 31st birthday, was made possible through the library's museum pass program. For cardholders, we offer passes to cultural venues including Montshire Museum, Currier Museum of Art, New Hampshire Historical Society, and others. Borrowing a pass is simple, and all of us at the library are happy to provide information on how to do so.

Seeing a snowy owl, two barred owls, and one of our nation's symbols - the bald eagle - up close was an experience I will not soon forget. I hope you will consider borrowing one or more of the passes the library offers. It's the perfect way to get out of the house this winter!
