New policy on sexual violence approved

From Office of the Vice-Provost, Students & International
OCAD University now has a standalone policy that spells our community’s commitment to preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence.

The new policy, approved by the OCAD U Board of Governors on December 5, 2016 after months of community consultation, establishes the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) as the first point of contact for any student wishing to disclose an incident of sexual violence.

Staff at HWC will facilitate academic accommodations for students who need them and provide support and  information on the reporting and formal complaints options within the policy.

In the case of inclement weather...
So far this winter, we've been lucky and the weather has not been too bad! But do you know where to look for campus closure information in the case of inclement weather?

The OCAD University campus will remain open and in full operation during regular hours, weather permitting. Poor weather conditions may sometimes make it difficult for employees and students to travel to work/school, but they are expected to make arrangements which will enable them to arrive as soon as possible. However, under severe weather conditions, a decision may be made to restrict operations or to close the university altogether.

National Survey of Student Engagement
From Student Communications
This month, first- and fourth-year students will receive an invitation by email to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). NSSE helps us understand how students are spending time in and out of the classroom, which guides decisions about improving your educational experience.
We are listening, but you have to speak up to be heard! Watch for your email invitation, or find the link in Canvas starting February 7.

In appreciation for participating, all students who complete the survey will be entered into a draw for 1 of 5 Above Ground Art Supplies gift cards worth $100 each. Your chances of winning depend on how many complete the survey; the last time we administered this survey, about 800 students responded. Based on this estimate, your odds of winning are 1 in 160.

If you have questions about this project, or how we use the results, email
Laura Wood, Manager, Insitutional Analysis or telephone 416-977-6000, Ext. 4610.
