UPDATES:

Calcutta - One Week Away!
Procrastinators: you cannot put off buying your ticket any longer! We sold out last year and we are on track to do so again.  See Ms. Nancy to pick your lucky number. One ball includes dinner for two, a chance to win $1500 and some great items on which to bid.

The incredible class projects and baskets will be on display Wednesday morning during the school breakfast for all to see.

Please note that while we will be able to accept credit cards, SFX is charged nearly 3% per transaction so checks are preferable. Checks ensure that all the money stays with the school.

If you would like to reserve a room at the Hampton for that evening, the special rate is $99.  Please contact Melissa at 318-9039.

Hope to see you at the Calcutta  next Friday.

Box Top Competition

Our Box Top Competition started on Monday. We’ll be collecting from until February 10th. The two classes that bring in the most Box Tops (averaged per student) will win possession of the Traveling Trophies. Please send Box Tops to school in a baggie or envelope marked with your child’s grade or teacher’s name. Our last competition resulted in more than 4000 collections. Let’s see if we can do it again this round. If you have any questions or would like to know which products carry Box Tops, please go to www.boxtops4education.com, or email Sue Lajeunesse at lajeunessefamily@comcast.net.

This program is a great benefit to SFX, and the more families that participate, the more we can earn. In past years, our Box Top proceeds have been used to help purchase new mulch for the playground, a new milk cooler for the lunch room, and more. As always, we appreciate your help in supporting our students.

Thank you.

SPORTS NEWS:

4th/5th Boys
The scrappy SFX 4/5 Basketball Team finished off strong Sunday in a game played against cross town rival Mater Christi.  Scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter, which almost doubled the amount of points scored in the first 3, the squad finished with their highest point total of the season in a 38-22 loss.  The focus for the team this week was rebounding and everyone pitched in.  Elijah Wood and Shane Mobley each had a pair, while Stosh Zuk, Mason Griffiths, Caleb Kruger and Dallas St. Peter grabbed one each.  Coleton Merchant ripped down 3 and Sam Parris with an astounding 6 boards!  The score sheet was filled out with Shane Mobley at 5 points, Coleton Merchant with 2, Owen Messineo with 2 (making a great head’s up play to catch everyone off guard), Dallas St. Peter with 9, and Sam Parris with 4.  Colton Fay provided the spark with a tremendous steal in the 3 quarter.

8th Grade Boys

1/15 Game: The SFX 8th grade boys took on their younger 7th grade classmates in an amicable affair.  The elder boys took a quick 10-0 lead, causing numerous turnovers and taking advantage of their size and height.  However, the young guns hung in there with some fancy moves and three-point shooting.  The score was relatively close at half, at 21-14.  The older boys played a bit lazily early in the second half with some sloppy play, but turned on the scoring late in the game.  The 8th graders went on to a 47-17 win, improving their record to 4-2.

1/22/17 Game: The SFX 8th grade boys had round two against a tough and talented St. Mark’s team.  Play started off quickly with St. Mark’s draining a three-pointer to begin the contest.  However, things quickly slowed from there, with the Q1 score ending with SFX down, 5-12.  The boys struggled on the boards and missed some golden opportunities for some much needed points against a formidable opponent.  While SFX had their chances, they just couldn’t overcome the inside game St. Mark’s ran, losing 32-53.  For SFX,  JJ Stockbridge lead the pack with 14 and William Burke and Zac Roy each chipped in 2.  The boys are now 4-3 on the season.

7th/8th Grade Girls
The 7/8 Girls played very well against a tough St. Pius team on Sunday. The girls played great defense and worked the ball to get several good looks at the basket, but unfortunately several of their shots would not fall. Maelyn led the scoring with four points. Sierra, Larissa, Ashleigh, and Cassidy rounded out the scoring with two points each. Anna, Caroline, Mel, and Allison played relentless defense and were strong on the boards, out rebounding a very tall St. Pius team.

The upcoming games are listed in the above calendar of events.  Come cheer the teams on!
