January 2017: New Year, New Newsletter

Hey all, let's get 2017 started! There's no time to wait around for things to happen. Thank you all for your dedicated support in 2016- I'm very grateful for the people I met and the opportunities I had. Looking ahead, there are so many big things to anticipate, and plenty to stand up for and support. I am looking on to positive things like sharing my Cuban cookbook, Comida Cubana, that releases in September, fresh prints, and more events. I want to keep you all informed on the latest and greatest. Speaking of big plans, one of my goals this year is to send a monthly newsletter (I promise not to bother you more than that)! So, LETS DO THIS!

EXPERIENCES
Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with the cool folks over at Nh.d Studio on their Design Intercourse Podcast about all things art, illustration, travel, design and food. Plus, I share some details about how my upcoming Cuba cookbook came to life. Check out the podcast below!
LISTEN TO THE PODCAST
It's always possible to find inspiration in new experiences! Last month, I had the chance to share my love of food illustration with Mundo Verde, a Spanish immersion school in my neighborhood of Bloomingdale, DC. I shared my art process all in Spanish, and loved the opportunity to teach the students how I create imagery based on observation.
NEW ART
In honor of my friend Tricia Mccauley, I'm creating a passion flower piece in her memory. As a certified herbalist, Tricia's knowledge of plants and their medicinal properties was varied and extensive. She taught me that Passion flower tea will calm the nerves, help with sleep and aid in digestion. Proceeds from this print will go towards Tricia's memorial in Ledroit Park, where we shared many memories gardening together in our community plots and at Common Good City Farm.
