HRTC Weekly Update | 28th January

Class 6 Singles Club Championship 2016

The last of our 2016 singles Club Championships was played this week when Stuart McLean and John Moores went head to head in the Class 6 singles final. It was a close and hard fought match that could have gone either way - but Stuart managed to get through in the end winning the match 6/4 6/4 and taking out the 2016 title.

2017 Roo Trophy - RMTC

Well done to Club members Paul Dunne and James Theodore who recently took out the most sought after Roo Trophy Doubles that was held at the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club in January. The pair defeated a large and strong field to prove that our Hobart crew can compete on any stage. Well done boys - a great achievement!

Danby Cup 2017

The World Over 70's International teams event was held at HRTC over four days recently and what a huge event it turned out to be! With representation from Great Britain, United States and Australia there was a hive of activity at the Club the entire time. The event kicked off with teams practice on Friday, nearly 80 people enjoyed the on court welcoming cocktail party on Friday night, the teams event was played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, there were more dinners Saturday and Sunday night and lunches each day! Our social and tennis committees were definitely working overtime and should be congratulated on their efforts!

After three days play we are most delighted and proud to report that it was our Australian team that took out the title defeating both Great Britain and the United States in close matches. A HUGE congratulations go to:

HRTC Life Club Memberships

The Danby Cup cocktail party also marked another significant event where both Rob Fahey and Barry Toates were officially awarded HRTC Life Membership for long standing service to the Club and to the greater game of Real Tennis. It is a significant honour for both of them and they both truly deserve it. Congratulations Barry and Rob!

Ray Lowenthal Wins the HRTC Xmas Gingerbread House!

Club member Ray Lowenthal may not have won the lottery - but he still thinks he did pretty well before Xmas when he won our Christmas ginger bread house raffle. The ginger bread house was a work of art and was made by our extraordinary Club member Martine Heilman. It looked magnificent - and Ray and his grandchildren were most delighted to have won the prize. A special thanks go to Martine for donating it to the Club and well done Ray on your first raffle win!!!

February 2nd - A Grade Pennant commencement

Hobart's top players take on the best Ballarat has to offer when we clash for our annual Widmer-Bradfield Challenge. Four best of five set singles matches and two best of five set doubles matches will be played over the course of the weekend - with a tournament dinner to be held at the Club on the Saturday night. For those of you keen to see Hobart's finest in action - check out this weekend! We wish our entire team all the very best for the event....

February 25/26 - HRTC Class 7 Doubles 2017 (Handicaps 70+)

HRTC's Class 7 Doubles Club Championships will be held at the Club on February 25/26. All HRTC members with handicaps 70 and above are encouraged to sign up for the event - which we plan to make most enjoyable for all who choose to play. Players may find their own partner - or have one chosen for them. Call the Club or use the link below to join in the action:
