Welcome to a special edition of the Australian Junior Chess League newsletter!

 

This edition is all about the biggest Junior event Australia has on offer


The Australian Junior Chess Championships!


We have collated for you the photo's, the stories and the final standings.

Congratulations to everyone that fought hard and played like a champion. It was a wonderful atmosphere and a big congratulations should go to all the volunteers that put in many many many ours of hard work!

Jennifer, Lyanna and Jasper

Q: Have you been to an Australian Junior Chess Championship before?
Jennifer and Lyanne - This is our first time. Jasper - I have played in Canberra (U10), Adelaide (U10) and now in Brisbane (U12)

Q: What has been the  best so far about this event?
Jennifer - Good sportsmanship. Lyanne - Playing other people Jasper - playing lots of chess.

Q: What advice would you give other juniors about this event?
Jennifer - It is a great practise environment. Lyanne - It develops your mathematical skills and is a great way to make new friends. Jasper - You make many friends, get lots of good advice from coaches and you need to take your time.

Q: Have you been to an Australian Junior Chess Championship before?
I played in Adelaide last year (U8 and U8Girls) and this year I play in Brisbane in the U10 Girls

Q: What has been the  best so far about this event?
The free days. We went jet skiing and to the Gold Coast beach

Q: What advice would you give other juniors about this event?
Never ever give up!
Others games seemed more relaxed

Q: Have you been to an Australian Junior Chess Championship before?
James and Arno: this is our first time. Mathew: I went to Adelaide last year and played in the U10 category. This year I play in the U12. Fergus: This is my third time, I went to Canberra (U10), Adelaide (U12) and now Brisbane (U12)

Q: What has been the  best so far about this event?
James - I won a trophy in the U8 category. Mathew - playing against other random people. Fergus - Playing people. Arno - Playing in such a big tournament.

Q: What advice would you give other juniors about this event?
Mathew and Arno - Use your time. Fergus - Become part of the Australian Junior Chess community. James - Take at least 1 minute per move.
The event could not have been run without the support of the dedicated volunteers, organisers and chess parents!
