Welcome to Art With Heart!

It has been a busy year so far with our new puppy, art classes starting and of course there are always projects for us to get done around the house. We have been in our log home on beautiful Watts Bar Lake in Tennessee for a year now and the time has flown. We feel so lucky to be here and have loved having so many friends and family come to visit. I hope your 2017 is off to a good start, too!

Meet Jake!

When the kids were small we had a wonderful golden retriever named Ginger and we have been trying to get another one for a couple of years now. First, we found out we were moving to Tennessee and then the litter we were suppose to get a puppy from consisted of only one female so FINALLY in October Todd was able to go back to Colorado and select our cute, little Jake.

We brought him home on Dec. 20 and he definitely added energy and excitement to the holidays. I had forgotten how much work a little puppy is but he has settled down a lot in the past few weeks and life is slowly returning to normal. And he is really cute!

Valentine's Day Printables!

I have had fun designing several printables for Valentine's Day using some of my original watercolor paintings and adding decorative words or quotes to them. They are perfect to frame and display in your own home or to give as a gift. I invite you to check out all of my romantic Instant Download Watercolor printables here!

Watercolor Night Skies

A few weeks ago in my weekly watercolor class I demonstrated painting night skies. We experimented with several ways to suggest stars - sprinkling salt, spattering masking fluid and using white acrylic paint. For STARRY NIGHT I applied very fine drops of masking fluid before painting different shades of blue for the sky. I also masked out areas of snow on my evergreen trees and the roofs of the houses.

Watercolor Batik

I loved painting these cute little birds sitting in the tree among the red berries. We have had several weeks of warm weather but also had some snow mixed in with it so our trees are a little confused and the birds have been chirping happily like it is springtime. BIRD'S EYE VIEW - 12x19 watercolor Batik in my Etsy Shop

Watercolor Bookmarks

To celebrate Valentine's Day I am offering this free sheet of bookmarks that I designed form one of my original watercolor paintings. Just download the file, print on 8.5x11 paper or cardstock, trim and they are ready to slip in to one of your books and to give as gifts. You can also punch a hole at the top and add a ribbon and/or laminate them for added protection. Enjoy!

Creative Living!

When I Googled 'books for Valentine's Day' I was thinking about adult fiction and was surprised to see so many fun, cute and colorful books show up for kids. Children's books are usually full of charming illustrations and simple, heartfelt messages so whether you have a child around to read to to not why not head to your local library or book store and grab a few to celebrate the big day!
