The Tree House Offers New Transitional Therapy Services to Children Entering Foster Care
The Tree House is excited to announce the launch of the Transitional Trauma Therapy Program (T3). A partnership with Montgomery County Child Welfare Services, T3 is designed to address the immediate mental health needs of foster children in Montgomery County.
Entering foster care can be one of the most difficult and scary events in the life of a child. In addition to the history of abuse or neglect that brought a child into care, a foster child must also adjust to a new home and caregiver without his or her familiar sources of support. While child welfare and foster parents often work in tandem to secure ongoing mental health services for children who need it, they are sometimes faced with delays and waitlists, meaning care can be postponed by several weeks or months. The T3 Program aims to bridges this gap by providing trauma-informed mental health support, assessment, and consultation services that can be initiated as soon as a child is placed into foster care. T3 clinicians are paired with clients as soon as possible following removal and work with the child and foster family during this adjustment period.
Research has shown that early intervention is key to improving mental health outcomes for children who have experienced trauma. We are confident that the T3 Program will add depth to the services already provided by the Tree House and will further our mission by providing much needed services to traumatized children in our county.
The Montgomery Village Kiwanis Club has been working very hard to help us throughout the year with ornament sales, wine-tastings, gift-wrapping, flea markets, and more. Just after our last newsletter came out they brought us the fruits of their labor. President Arlene Hale stopped by to give our Director, Thomas Grazio, a check for $6,000!
We are so grateful to our dear, dear Kiwanis friends, and are so thankful for their continued support.
It will be here before you know it...
