Greetings from Ashraya Initiative for Children!

June marks the beginning of a new school year for the children of AIC, and we wanted to take this opportunity to give you a quick update about the children in our programs and ask for your continued support.

Our Education Outreach Program has grown immensely over the last few years and now fully supports the education of approximately 250 underprivileged children in Pune, India.  As a whole, the children in our program, many of whom would not be attending school at all without AIC’s services, did exceptionally well in the 2010-2011 academic year.  Many of our students finished at or near the top of their classes and have been recommended for admission into better schools in the Pune area.

As expected, the children in our Residential Program have continued to shine in school, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.  The newest addition to the Residential Program, Rahul, was recently given admission at Dr. (Mrs.) Nagarvala Day School and is thrilled about starting school three weeks from now.

As we  get ready to embark on a new school year and prepare for the many challenges and opportunities that undoubtedly lie ahead, we  want to be sure that you know how much we value your support of our programs and purpose.  We’d also like to remind you that with the impending academic year comes enrollment fees, school uniforms, school supplies, meals, and teacher salaries.

AIC has a number of different options for supporters to continue their support and/or enhance their support:

  • Sponsor a child through AIC’s Child Sponsorship Program!
    •  Launched in November 2010, AIC’s Child Sponsorship Program offers a range of sponsorship options, from one-time special project sponsorships, such as Diwali gift sponsorship, to an annual full sponsorship of a child’s education in the Education Outreach Program.  Sponsorship is a great way to make giving personal and fulfilling.
  • Fundraise for AIC!
    • We welcome and encourage all of our supporters to think about fundraising for AIC in various capacities. Fundraisers not only raise money, but are effective tools to spread the word about the work of AIC.  Let us know if you would like to plan a fundraiser or know someone who would.
  • Donate your birthday!
    • Rather than receiving presents on your birthday, ask your friends and family to donate the amount of money equal to your age to AIC.  This is a fun and easy way to raise money for our organization.
  • Give through SeeYourImpact!
    • AIC is registered with SeeYourImpact, an online community that connects donors to small sponsorship options, such as sponsoring three meals a day for a month for one child or sponsoring a mother to take a tailoring class.
  • Tell your friends, family, coworkers, community, school about AIC!
    • More than ever, we need to broaden our supporter base and continue spreading the word about our work.  Writing an email or a letter to your networks would help tremendously.
We are excited to embark on this new academic year and need your help in making sure that all of the children and families with whom we work are adequately served.  While we are proud of the major strides the children we support have already made, we are constantly reminded of how much work we still have ahead of us.  In the last month alone, more than 80 students have been added to the waiting list for our Education Outreach Program.  Unfortunately, we are already near capacity and will only be able to welcome a small fraction of these students into our program for this school year.

Please help us ensure that all of the children in our programs receive the support they need to be successful this school year and beyond.  There is no doubt that we have already made a major impact in these children’s lives, but we also know that there is much more to be done.  Again, thank you for all of your support!

Best Regards,

The AIC Family
