Today we learn about the Nesiim who will help split up Eretz Yisroel, and where the Leviim will live.
Hashem told Moshe who should be in charge of dividing up Eretz Yisroel — Elazar the Kohen Gadol, and Yehoshua bin Nun. The Nasi from each Shevet should be in charge of the part for his shevet.
Here are the names of the Nesiim:
Yehuda: Kalev ben Yefuneh
Shimon: Shmuel ben Amihud
Binyamin — Elidad ben Kislon
Dan: Buki ben Yagli
Menasheh: Chaniel ben Eifod
Efrayim: Kemuel ben Shiftan
Zevulun: Elitzafan ben Parnach
Yissachar: Paltiel ben Azan
Asher: Achihud ben Shlomi
Naftali: Pedahel ben Amihud
(We don’t say the Nesiim for Shevet Reuven or Gad, because they already have their land, on the other side of the Yarden!)
Then Hashem tells Moshe about the cities for Shevet Levi. They don’t GET a part of Eretz Yisroel — there are just certain cities that will be for the Leviim to LIVE.
The Yidden should give them the six cities which will be an Ir Miklat, and then 42 more cities. Each city needs to be surrounded by 1000 amos of open space, and 1000 amos of fields to grow things, on all sides of the cities.
In today’s Chumash, there are two very rare trop — this is the only place they appear in the entire Torah! Can you find them?

Today we start the Tehillim again from the beginning! Today’s kapitelach are Kapitel Alef until Kapitel Tes.
Many times when Yidden were in trouble, the Rebbe would speak about a posuk from one of today’s kapitelach: “Mipi Olelim Veyonkim Yisadeta Oz” — “from the mouths of children and babies You get koach to destroy the enemies.” The Rebbe explained that the koach of the Torah and mitzvos of children is what gives us koach to destroy all of our enemies!
From this posuk we learn that when even a very small child or a baby says words of Torah or does a mitzvah, it is able to protect Yidden everywhere!
This is why chinuch of small children is so important, because it helps keep all Yidden safe!

A Yid always needs to be besimcha! Even if he did an aveira, he STILL needs to always be besimcha!
If he’s thinking about the aveira he did (Teshuva Tata’ah), he should be happy since he knows that Hashem for sure forgives him!
And of course, when he is learning Torah and doing mitzvos with an extra chayus (Teshuvah Ila’ah), then he is FOR SURE besimcha!
Now the Alter Rebbe tells us one more thing where a Yid might think that he should be sad — but even then, he needs to be besimcha! What is that?
Dovid Hamelech says in Tehillim that we should always remember our aveiros (Vechatasi Negdi Somid). If a person is always remembering his aveiros, won’t he get sad?
The Alter Rebbe says no! Really, it’s just the opposite! That’s a GREAT reason to be besimcha! Why?
Dovid Hamelech isn’t saying that you need to THINK about your aveiros all the time, just that you should remember that they exist.
Instead, any time when someone does something you don’t like, or something happens from Hashem that you don’t like, you can remember your aveiros and say “Zol Zain A Kaparah!” Any time something happens that doesn’t seem so good, you can think about that aveira for a second and say, “Okay Hashem, now You gave me a kapara for the aveira!”
So when Dovid Hamelech says to remember our aveiros, it doesn’t mean to be always thinking about them to make us sad, just that we should always remember that they exist. This will help us accept uncomfortable things in life happily!

Today we learn something very special about Moshiach’s humility:
Moshiach will teach Torah to ALL of the Yidden — to the Avos and Moshe Rabbeinu. That shows us how great Moshiach is, that he can even teach such great tzadikim! Still, Moshiach will ALSO teach even very simple Yidden who don’t understand very much.
This shows that Moshiach is so humble! Even though he is very great, he will learn with everyone!

Today’s mitzvah (Mitzvas Asei #201) is a new mitzvah about workers: You have to let your workers eat from what they’re working on when they are harvesting. If they’re picking grapes, you have to let them eat grapes while they’re working. If they’re picking oranges, they can eat oranges!
We learn this from two pesukim in Parshas Ki Seitzei: כִּי תָבֹא בְּכֶרֶם רֵעֶךָ וְאָכַלְתָּ עֲנָבִים וְגוֹ׳ כִּי תָבֹא בְּקָמַת רֵעֶךָ וְקָטַפְתָּ מְלִילֹת בְּיָדֶךָ
The details of this mitzvah are explained in Perek Zayin of Mesechta Bava Metziyah.

In today’s Rambam, we learn more halachos about renting, and we start to learn the halachos of hiring a worker.
In Perek Zayin, the Rambam explains that renting is like buying for a short time. So just like you can make conditions when you sell something, you can make conditions when you rent. For example, you can rent someone your printer with a condition that you need them to print you 5 papers every week.
Perek Ches teaches us about renting a field, in exchange for part of the food that grows. An old man might rent someone his peach orchard, and they will have to give him 1/4 of the money that they make from the peaches every year. We learn that the renter has to take good care of the field! He can’t decide to stop taking away the weeds.
In Perek Tes, we also start learning the halachos about a worker. One halacha is that if you send a worker to pick up a package, and he goes to the right place but can’t find it, you still have to pay him — because he did his best to do what you asked him to do!

In this perek we learn many halachos about not eating or cooking milk and meat together (Basar BeChalav). One halacha is that we aren’t allowed to make milchige bread that looks like regular bread, because someone might eat it with fleishigs by mistake.

The Rebbe taught us to learn about the Beis Hamikdash during the Three Weeks. Let’s see what’s behind this takana!
One of the mitzvos Hashem gave us is the mitzvah to build a Mishkan for Hashem, “Ve’asu Li Mikdash Veshachanti Besocham.” This wasn’t only a mitzvah for the Yidden in the Midbar, it is also a mitzvah for all of the later generations, that they should make sure that there is a Beis Hamikdash for Hashem.
Even though we can’t actually build the physical Beis Hamikdash, we do the mitzvah as best as we can, by building the Beis Hamikdash in a different way.
The Gemara teaches that when a person learns the pesukim of the Torah about korbanos, Hashem counts it as if he is actually bringing that korban!
This is also true with learning about the Beis Hamikdash. When we learn the parts of Torah explaining the parts of the Beis Hamikdash and how they were built, it is like we are actually building the Beis Hamikdash! In Chumash (especially Parshas Terumah and Tetzaveh) we learn about the Mishkan, in certain chapters of the Navi Yechezkel it describes (generally) the Beis Hamikdash Hashlishi, in Mishnayos Midos we learn about the way the Beis Hamikdash was set up, and in Mishnayos and Gemara Tomid, we learn about the Avodah in the Beis Hamikdash. The Rambam sets up all of these halachos in an organized way in Hilchos Beis Habechirah and Sefer Avodah!
Especially during a time when we are sad about the Beis Hamikdash being destroyed, we can weaken the Churban by learning about the Beis Hamikdash, which is one way of building it!
This will also help that Hashem will see how we’re trying to build the Beis Hamikdash, and will actually give us the physical Beis Hamikdash Hashlishi with Moshiach right away!

According to Kabbalah, the brachos that we say in Birchos HaTorah are considered three separate brachos.
1) Al Divrei Sorah — we bless Hashem for the mitzvah of learning Torah!
2) Vehaarev Na — we ask that our Torah learning should be enjoyable, that it should be lasting, that our children and Klal Yisrael also appreciate it, and that we learn for the right reasons!
3) Asher Bachar Banu — we thank Hashem for choosing US to give His special gift to, and that Hashem is Nosein HaTorah, constantly giving it to us!
Some say that the three brachos are because of the three parts of Torah: Mikra (Tanach), Mishna, and Medrash (sources and reasons for the halachos of Torah and the deeper meanings of pesukim).

Do you know the halachos of the Nine Days? Here are some of the things we aren’t allowed to do:
- We don’t eat fleishigs — even things that are cooked with fleishigs, like the soup part of chicken soup. (We are allowed to taste a bit of the Shabbos food before Shabbos to make sure the spices are good.)
- We don’t take baths or showers unless we are dirty!
- We don’t cut our nails or our hair (we can cut our nails Lekavod Shabbos).
- We don’t wear “fresh” clothes that are nice and just washed
- We don’t go swimming or boating
We don’t do these things to remind us how sad we are that we don’t have the Beis Hamikdash back yet.
But when Moshiach comes, these will be very HAPPY days!
- The Rebbe tells us to make a siyum every day of the Nine Days, to have simcha in a way that we ARE allowed!

After the times of Shlomo Hamelech, the Yidden were split into two groups — one group followed the Malchei Yehudah, and the other followed the Malchei Yisrael. The Navi Yechezkel told the Yidden a nevuah that when Moshiach comes, the Yidden won’t be split anymore! They will all be one nation, with one king.
Hashem promises:
וְעַבְדִּי דָוִד מֶלֶךְ עֲלֵיהֶם וְרוֹעֶה אֶחָד יִהְיֶה לְכֻלָּם וּבְמִשְׁפָּטַי יֵלֵכוּ וְחֻקֹּתַי יִשְׁמְרוּ וְעָשׂוּ אוֹתָם
Ve’avdi Dovid Melech Aleihem — My servant, Dovid (Melech Hamoshiach, who comes from Dovid) will be a king over them
VeRo’eh Echad Yihiyeh Lechulam — And one “shepherd” will take care of them all. (A leader of the Yidden is like a shepherd, who watches and takes care of each of his sheep.)
U’veMishpatai Yeileichu — The Yidden will follow in the ways of My mishpatim (this is a type of mitzvah that we understand)
Ve’chukosai Yishmoru — And they will hold my Chukim in their hearts (this is a type of mitzvah we don’t understand)
Ve’asu Osam — And they will do all of these mitzvos.
