Empty Bowls Luncheon

The Empty Bowls Luncheon was held this last Saturday, April 23 at the Civic Center to help fight hunger in the Amarillo community.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger and was created by The Imagine Render Group. The basic premise is simple: Potters from the Amarillo Art Institute create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a $15 donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised was donated to the Hi-Plains Food Bank and Amarillo Art Institute to keep working to end hunger and food insecurity.

The Amarillo Art Institute would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to our potters, Alex and Mandy Gregory for throwing all the bowls. Also a huge THANK YOU to Nannette Womack for helping with the firing and glazing process, and to all the many wonderful volunteers that helped us get them decorated and packed for the luncheon. Next Years Empty Bowls Luncheon will be on April 21, 2012, so mark your calendars and come help AAI keep working to end hunger and food insecurity!
