A lovely evening!

Over 30 people came out for our summer picnic social on a Sunday evening in June. Thunderstorms were threatening but after a brief shower, the skies cleared and we all enjoyed a lovely evening outside and a delicious dinner.

The crowd especially loved a cake made by one of our members, Katherine Brooks. It received rave reviews and everyone wanted the recipe. We learned it was an old family recipe that couldn't be divulged, but Katherine shared another favorite, Million-Dollar Pound Cake (just 7 ingredients). Find the recipe on our website .

SSTB socials are a wonderful way to get to know other members and maybe even figure out some future exchanges.  We were so happy to welcome many longstanding members and several new folks. Stay tuned for details on our next social sometime in the fall, and we hope you can attend.

Another swap is in the works

We're looking at mid-October to host a toy, game and puzzle swap, so start cleaning out your closets, toy chests and basements!  Details to come.

The July SSTB leadership team meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 at 7pm. We're especially looking for help on the Outreach and Events teams. If you've got a few hours to offer each month, join us to learn more!  Please RSVP.
Our next new SSTB member orientation will be on Thursday, July 19. It will be held at the Catylator Makerspace located at 8121 Georgia Avenue, Suite LL1. There is on-street parking and a public garage nearby. The orientation starts at 7pm and parking is free after 7pm.

We ask that everyone please RSVP
so we know to expect you.

Monthly SSTB member tip

Have you heard about the SSTB Community Time Chest?

SSTB members who have a sudden and/or temporary need for extensive help, such as after an accident or surgery can turn to the Silver Spring Timebank for support. The Community Time Chest (CTC) provides support for up to two weeks with such things as very light housekeeping, errands and rides to appointments, giving the recipient time to organize friends, family, or professional services for further care needed. Members in need can contact the Community Time Chest coordinator with their needs, and the coordinator will find SSTB member helpers.

For more details about the CTC, check out the SSTB website.
