Message from NRWC President Alwyn Friedersdorff
How this year is flying by!
June saw the Executive team busily rounding off all our planned work and enthusiastically planning new ventures. It has been an absolute bonus to be able to forge into our next year’s plan with positive assistance and shared viewpoints with our Office for Women staff, who should be acknowledged because it is through them that our necessary funding stream flows.
July is packed full, with set ups for two exciting new Webinars badged with our newly registered name ’e-Skilling’, one of which will teach the skills of using videos in social media over three sessions and the other will teach the skills to prepare you for leadership in local government. And we end the month in Hobart to conduct a Roundtable on the issues of homelessness faced by RRR women.

July and August seem to be special months that direct us to a myriad of chances to recognise the worth of women! There are both State and National opportunities, so get the word out there! Encourage others to nominate achieving women!
Form a working group to make it happen! And watch out for our own special RRR Women of Influence.

As I write, I realise that we are approaching NAIDOC Week with this year’s powerful theme, Because of Her We Can! Our First Nation sisters are celebrating the ‘essential role that women have played - and continue to play - as active and significant role models at the community, local, state and national levels.’

I love this year’s Poster! It is a call out for all the things that we all want!

There are so many amazing stories being told in this celebration. Be sure to find out what events are on near you and support them, learn from them, enjoy and celebrate them and even acknowledge something that you now treasure, just because you have shared some time with an indigenous woman in your area so that you can truly say, ‘because of her I can’.
What's Been Happening at NRWC
e-Skilling - Women In Local Government
Women Of Influence
NRWC is highlighting inspiring, rural, remote and regional women as part of a Women of Influence project.
From across rural, remote and regional Australia, these inspiring women (checkout Facebook to see the full profile of these amazing women), we celebrate as they are role models and female champions.
If you know an "Inspiring Rural, Remote and Regional Woman", please send her details to admin@nrwc.com.au.

Danica Leys - Picton  NSW
CEO for Country Women's Association of NSW

Danica, "Loves providing a social connection for rural, regional and remote women, who look for friendship and support".
Advice Danica gives to girls and women; "I don't think anyone should follow in anyone else's footsteps.  Blaze your own trail.  Get skilled up in a certain area, do it and find your niche".
Jodie Goldsworthy - Beechworth  VIC
Fourth Generation Apiarist
Author of Cooking, Tasting, Living Honey (2009)

Advice Jodie gives to other girls and women; "Be yourself!  Back your own judgement.  Always stay true to your values.  Work hard and do as much as you can, but learn to say "no", without feeling guilty.  Find your won balance and do not feel bad about doing this".
Senator Malarndirri McCarthy - Borroloola  NT
Senator for Northern Territory since 2016

Senator McCarthy represents the views and interests of Territorians.
Senator McCarthy's advise to women is; "Stay true to what you believe in.  That includes being true to yourself.  Especially to young women.  Being young now is hard, there are so many distractions, some of them positive and others are negative.  If you stay true to your values, it is easier to navigate through.  Be kind to each other, because when women support women, women win"!!
