Christians Against Poverty in Coventry transformed Jackie's life
Like many people in poverty in Coventry, Jackie was employed, working long days to try and make ends meet. But the money left over from basic living could not pay off her debts. Ian from Coventry's branch of Christians Against Poverty has helped transform Jackie's life, working alongside her to "give her a little bit of hope" and help her "get her life back". Thanks to CAP, Jackie is now following a budget, paying off her debts, happy, has a relationship with God, and has a purpose for living. Watch (and share!) the video below for the full story, or donate here.

Good Neighbours Coventry - out on an ambulance!

Recently, Chris (COO of HOPE Coventry) was offered the opportunity to complete a paramedic shift to enable him to see first- hand the sort of call outs ambulance crews have to deal with. Chris was very impressed and congratulates the WM crews for their dedication and care for all patients. At the call outs to two specific older people, it became obvious that there were lonely, isolated older people and that if they had a “Good Neighbour”, a 999 call may not have been required - with friendship available, actions can be more pre-emptive due to conversation and connection. Our 200+ volunteers must be impacting the NHS statistics already, and we are grateful for every good deed our volunteers do across Coventry. If you would like to find out more, come to All Souls church (CV5 8DX) on Wednesday 18th July at 7pm, Thursday 19th July at 10.30am, or to St George's church (CV6 1EA) on Tuesday 24th July at 6pm.

Carriers of Hope and Kidz Klub
Making a difference locally

Chris recently visited Carriers of Hope in Hillfields, and Kidz Klub Tile Hill, to see what these dedicated charities do. Carriers of Hope provide a safe place for refugees and asylum seekers to meet and receive food, clothes, furniture, and most importantly, a significant welcome from committed volunteers in the city. Chris was thrilled that valuing people there is accompanied by prayer and practicality. Carriers of Hope is able to express the Christian message of HOPE to this community, who often have nothing.

At Kidz Klub, Sarah Adamson and her team provide a high-quality hour and half of fun activities for children to enjoy in some of the most deprived areas of our city. Thanks to the volunteers, the children hear the message of the gospel in a relevant way that is accessible to them. Chris loved the fun, the references to the World Cup, and especially the kids joining with sharing verses and praying.

HOPE Coventry is looking forward to partnering further with these organisations.

Coventry Foodbank has been chosen for a pilot project of fresh food - but they also need donations! -  Hugh McNeill
Coventry Foodbank needs food!

Coventry Foodbank has been chosen for an exciting pilot project with Asda for distribution of fresh food within food parcels, with the project kicking off this week. However, they still require donations of long-life food too during the summer, as some stock levels are dwindling. Please donate in particular tinned meat/fish/tomatoes, UHT milk, and tinned rice pudding. Universal Credit is coming to Coventry this week and the Foodbank is expecting a 15-30% increase in need. For more details, see the video above. Donate at your local church, at Foodbank locations, or at the warehouse in Binley.
Which Christian activities go on in Coventry?

Prayer for Christian Service is a monthly gathering to find out about, and pray for, the many and varied forms of practical Christian ministry being carried out in the city, some longstanding and some new. Since PfCS began in December 2016, eighteen guests have shared about their work. Each month a guest speaker from a church organisation or charity gives an outline of their work, followed by questions, and then the group pray for the organisation's prayer requests. There is also the chance to volunteer, or to pass on information about it to others.

The photos show the July gathering, when the Revd Ali Hogger-Gadsby spoke about Keeping Health in Mind. Numbers attending are between 4-16. The prayer requests are published on the Chapel of Unity website for continued prayer, and a ringbinder giving outlines and prayer points of the ministries is being prepared for within the Chapel of Unity.

Please send details of any Christian ministries in the city to John Lloyd (jwlloyd49@gmail.com) so that this work of prayer, open to anyone (in keeping with the spirit and aims of the Chapel of Unity) can continue into the future.
