Learning around Avonmore this week
This week was Whole School Writing Week and all the children used the picture book Tuesday by David Wiesner as stimulus for different writing outcomes. Children produced newspaper reports, diary entries and stories about the strange things that happened one Tuesday. In Y2 they wrote poems. This one is by Sabian:
The Frogs' Magical Night

One enchanted evening when everyone was sleepy and shy,
Something happened, something high!
The ordinary frogs began to fly!
The frogs' magical night.

They dashed, they swooped, they picked up the pace,
They jumped and laughed,
They started to race.
The frogs' magical night!

The naughty frogs flew down the street,
They watched TV at the old lady's feet,
They raced along to get a good seat!
The frogs' magical night!

Then the frogs magic just stopped,
And off they hopped,
The magic was over for the frogs
But something was happening to the pigs...
Sports Day at Holland Park was a great success! A huge thank you goes to Mr McCann and all staff for arranging a fantastic day and thanks to all the parents and carers who came along to support and to take part in the adults race!
In the Nursery this week we have been busy making our own version of the story 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner.  We are looking forward to retelling the story as a whole class by the end of Writing week.

Reception loved speaking to the police officers during careers week. This week the children have been using costumes and equipment in our outside area as a role play activity. Thank you for letting us use your equipment!

Year 1 had such a great Sports Day. We all tried our best and we won lots of points for our teams. Our favourite activities were the tug of war and the races.

Year 2 have worked incredibly hard this week. They performed brilliantly at sports day and have written fantastic poems with a refrain inspired by the picture book 'Tuesday'.

This week Year 3 have had a thrilling sports day and have taken part in whole school writing week.

Year 5 have had a very busy week, firstly they performed brilliantly at Hammersmith Town Hall and then they showed off their entrepreneurial skills at Wholefoods in Fulham!

Year 6 Production of The Jungle Book
It was an absolute pleasure to watch Y6 perform such a fantastic end of year production on Thursday. Parents and staff were blown away by their confident acting, singing and dancing.
The Jungle Book Programme included this note from Oketa (Head Girl) and Andreas (Head Boy):

The children in Year 6 have worked extremely hard this whole year and there have been so many highlights that it is difficult to choose a favourite, but we all particularly enjoyed School Journey,  visiting the Hayward gallery and Sports Day.

We have really enjoyed preparing for this production, but we couldn’t have done it without all the support from Miss Henman, Miss Isaac, Miss Webster and Miss Wittleton.  A big thank you also goes to Miss Andersone and Miss Highton for the wonderful scenery and costumes.

Although we know we are coming to the end of our time at Avonmore and we are feeling excited and sad, we know we are ready for our next exciting adventure- just like Mowgli!
