"Yoga allows the essence, the thing-in-itself to disclose itself."
~ The Yoga of Herbs, Dr. David Frawley and Dr. Vasant Lad
In summer the plants and flowers have a powerful attraction. The color and fragrance of roses, lavender, calendula....., can inspire us beyond the mind. Our connection is an ancient one; we share their underlying energy and they hold the seed or the potential of who we are as human beings. Because we share this intimacy, the flowers, in particular, have the capacity to awaken our hearts and offer the rasa/resonance of madhu/ SWEET. (See more about the healing qualities of the sweet medicinal rose below.)
Wisdom traditions like Ayurveda teach a reverence of the plants beyond appreciation of their beauty and wonder.
There is a recognition that through photosynthesis, the plants and flowers transmit the vital AND emotional essence of the sun and the stars ~ they transform light into life and reawaken feeling and connection.
As living forms we have the capacity for this powerful exchange. We can choose to simply ingest the natural world or we can receive and nourish in return.
Thank you for offering your presence to our space and land.

" Just a note to let you know how much better I felt after taking Diana's class yesterday. The asanas were exactly what my body needed and her soothing music and gentle words fed my soul. She is a lovely addition to The Yoga Lodge. "

The sweet energy of the medicinal rose helps pacify the burning and drying qualities of the summer season. Sweet is the taste that is most accepted by the body. It is uplifting and soothing. Although it's natural to crave the sweet taste and choose processed sweets like a chocolate bar or ice cream, these can disrupt digestive capacity and interfere with the body's harmonious flow. Instead choose fresh, juicy fruits that are abundant in summer.
Rose essence is uplifting, soothes inflamed skin and burning eyes, pacifies emotions, supports metabolic fire, and inspires the heart.
Simple ways to incorporate sweet roses into your day:
- To soothe burning skin or an agitated state of mind, soak in a bath with rose oil.
- For burning or fatigue in eyes ~ Place compresses soaked in rose water over the eyes or use rose water to mist the eyes.
- Make flower tea ~ Place untreated, medicinal rose petals (add other flowers like lavender and calendula too) in a glass teapot or jar and sit in the sun for several hours.
- To enhance inspiration and compassion ~ Place a few drops of rose oil on the skin to the right of your physical heart, the spiritual heart.
