Happy Summer from Umbrella!

Thank you for continuing to support our work at Umbrella Initiatives Foundation. Even with the World Cup in full swing we continue with only one goal and that is improving the lives and educational opportunities for children living in impovershed communities. Over the past two months we have been working tirelessly throughout Peru with the SuperReaders (Proyecto Superlectores) Project. The goal of this project is to encourage literacy and reading among elementary age students through empowering youth and young adult volunteers. The project is a direct outcome of the Backpack Project in that it provides a more sustained interaction with the community throughout the academic year.

Your support allows volunteers like Stephany to use her skills to teach and help children learn how to read and better understand their world and environment. At the end of the day our hope and goal as that through our projects and work we are not empowering local community groups but also allowing a space for play and fun in the educational process. As we all know children need the space to be children and this project provides that space as well as an opportunity to learn.

As a not for profit organization that works primarily with families and communities in Latin America we believe that all life has dignity and families should not be separated. We deplore the actions of governments around that world and particularly in the United States that are working to destroy families and subjugating ideas of justice and mercy to nationalistic tendencies.
