Greetings! The Spring and Summer has been, as usual, full of diversity. Perhaps the biggest work has been to complete two mosaic lunettes for St George’s Orthodox Church in Houston, Texas, destined to sit above the main entrances. Below you can find images of two exciting projects for parishes in Colchester and Cambridge as well as recent icon commissions.

Bethlehem Icon School at Colchester Cathedral

A past student of Aidan’s, Ian Knowles, some years ago founded the Bethlehem Icon School. He and some of the students are spending July and August at Lichfield Cathedral, painting for it a great three metre high cross, destined to hang over the altar. It is an exciting project and you would be most welcome to visit them in the Cathedral as they work.

New mosaics for St George Othodox Church, Houston, Texas

Following on from two large mosaics of the Crucifixion and Resurrection which were installed last year, St George Orthodox Church, Houston, commissioned two new icons to adorn the main entrances of their church and parish centre. I created the mosaic icon of Christ Pantocrator while Martin did a splendid job of designing and making the mosaic of St George. Wrought iron folding icon screen

The St Ephraim’s Orthodox parish in Cambridge are soon to begin a new phase in their life by sharing the church of St Clement's with an Anglican parish. To this end they commissioned Aidan Hart Icons to design and make an icon screen that could be folded away after use. I designed a wrought iron screen, pictured below, which is being made at present by master blacksmith Frazer Picot. I am looking forward to painting the icons themselves this summer. Furnishings for the parish of St Helen's, Colchester

The Colchester Orthodox parish of St Helen’s are raising money to buy the historic Anglo-Saxon church of St Martin’s.
