Focus on Teacher Education: How Can We Produce and Support New Teachers?

Learning First Alliance Executive Director Richard Long will interview Lynn M. Gangone, executive director of the American Association of Colleges for ELements of Success report coverTeacher Education (AACTE) on July 16 at 1:30 p.m. EDT on Facebook Live. This is the latest event in the series related to LFA's recent compendium of research and best practices, "The Elements of Success: 10 Million Speak on Schools That Work."

Dr. Gangone will discuss the current state of teacher education and address the issue of persistent teacher shortages in some subjects and geographical areas. Elements of Success has led to a focus on teachers, teacher education, and ongoing support as a critical need for K-12 education. AACTE and LFA will address how colleges and schools of teacher education can be part of the solution to school improvement.

To submit questions in advance, go to LFA's Facebook page, and leave a comment on the promotional posts of the event, or e-mail info@learningfirst.org

On Facebook, you also can view past discussions related to Elements of Success, including:

CoSN's Keith Krueger and Susan Bearden discuss digital equity and "the homework gap," where students who do not have access to technology and/or the internet have difficulty keeping up with homework and their studies; Donna Harris-Aikens of the National Education Association discusses equity and what it means for students and educators; and Richard Long chats about the Elements of Success.

Videos also can be viewed on LFA's You Tube channel.

LFA Members Offer School Safety Toolkit

AASA, the School Superintendents Association, recently partnered with The American School Counselor Association, National Association of School Psychologists, National School Boards Association, National School Public Relations Association and CrisisGo, an AASA School Solutions partner to issue a School Safety & Crisis Planning Toolkit with checklists for preparation, immediate reaction, and aftermath of a crisis.

Five Tips to Ease the Digital Divide
In June's Share My Lesson blog, LFA discusses the Digital Divide and why it's important for educators to understand why students do not have access to technology or the internet--each reason requires a different solution. Working with colleagues at CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking), LFA Executive Director Richard Long discusses innovative ways schools can help ensure all students are able to continue their learning outside of school.
