President's Message
Dear CBID,
The last few weeks I have been reminded over and over again of advice that was given to me on my first campaign -- decisions are made by those who show up.
We saw this in the Congressional Primary a few weeks ago when Congresswoman Yvette Clarke won her seat by only a few hundred votes. CBID put in many hours of work on that campaign. We canvassed door to door; we hosted house parties; we canvassed with her at green markets; we made calls; we covered polling sites on Election Day. And we helped her win. Our endorsement has to mean something. This is something I've been saying since January, and I feel like we made that count in this race. Everyone who knocked on a door, made a call, handed out a flier, I hope you take a moment to take that in -- you showed up, you helped make the decision to sent Rep. Clarke back to Congress.
A couple weeks ago, I got home around 10pm, put my feet up for the first time, and then got a text message from a colleague of mine. She said that there were reports of children flying in to LaGuardia airport on their way to NY detention centers, and groups were beginning to show up in solidarity. It wasn't long before my colleague, Shahana, and I got in a cab and were on our way there.
The was a very palpable feeling of care and love there. It wasn't a protest, it was a showing of love for anyone coming in to our City being torn away from their family, and setting the tone that no body would be alone.
We then saw the power of thousands and thousands of people marching across the Brooklyn Bridge a week later. Being there, seeing families with their children, seeing children holding signs like "toddlers in solidarity" really hammered home that point. We will keep showing up and because of that, we will win.
Now that the Congressional primaries are behind us, our attention has to turn to our State endorsed candidates. Over the summer we have many, many doors to knock for Cynthia, Jumaane, Zephyr, Zellnor, Blake, Andrew, and all of our other candidates. Our impact in these races can be crucial, but we need to keep showing up.
See you out there!

CBID Executive Committee Elections
The Executive Committee is a group of members who help run the club. We meet once a month on the Monday after the general meeting and go over the club's short term and long term vision. We plan the events, both internally and with campaigns. We set the agenda for the club, and keep things running. It's a great way to help make your voice heard on the actions of the club and meet more people. It's the best first step towards deep involvement in local politics.
We currently have 3 openings for the CBID Ex Comm. At the July meeting we will hold an election for these open seats with nominations from the floor. If you would like to run, please email Asher (ashercbid@gmail.com) ahead of time.
