Those who attended the latest Parish Meeting will know that we have received a number of quotes for CCTV in the village which are around the £3,000 - £4,000 mark, and following the meeting we were going to look at funding opportunities.
Unfortunately, to describe these opportunities as limited would be an understatement. And whilst we, as a parish, have a small amount of funds which we can allocated towards the project, as we are a small parish we do not have a sizeable sinking fund to call on.
At the same time, the need for CCTV grows ever-greater - just yesterday, in the middle of the day, a resident returned from the school run to find their property being burgled by two individuals who, it subsequently transpired, had been on a spree around the local area. Whilst individual residents are, of course, free to install their own CCTV on their own properties, and a number already do, a solution which covers the main entry and exit points of the village with reliable, high quality, night and day recording will, we believe, not just constitute a significant deterrent, but also help secure convictions in the event that incidents do still occur.
So we have taken the decision to ask for private funding from residents in the village - and hence this email. The amount of individual donations will be kept in strictest confidence, but all those who donate will be publicly credited (unless they request otherwise).
Both Glen and Giles have agreed to get the ball rolling with contributions of £100.00 each.
