This is an extremely competitive event so it is brilliant news that we have 3 products shortlisted.
The awards celebrate and encourage skincare manufacturers to create products that exclude many of the allergens, chemicals, fragrances and artificial additives associated with skin and health concerns. They also take into account ethical and environmental worries, which may appeal to those looking for purer or more natural cosmetics and products for their skin. Each accepted entry is initially submitted to a number of experienced Beauty Bible testers to undergo a rigorous month of ‘real life’ testing. Feedback is collated and used to draw up a Shortlist, which then go forward to an expert panel of judges. They choose products to receive bronze, silver and gold ‘medals’ within their categories.

A Writers’ Life
I have always written since I was a child - poems, songs and often short stories. Writing would often get me through the teenage angst years, however, I never thought that one day I’d be published. About sixteen years ago I started writing seriously – novels mostly. They got nowhere because I didn’t really know how to write! I had great ideas and plots, but the telling left much to the imagination. I read about writing, read lots of novels and practiced, and I eventually got a short story published in 2010 - Gentle Footprints, an anthology to raise awareness for Born Free. Because of this, I found myself on stage at the hay Festival next to Virginia McKenna. I read an extract of the story to a thousand people and decided I quite liked this writing malarkey! Then in 2011 I had my first novel published and Rip Current will be my ninth. I have four other unpublished ones (one was published but I now have it back) - So altogether I have written a total of thirteen so far. I’m working on A Cornish Retreat which will be my fourteenth.
The road to publication, unless you’re very lucky, is a long and hard one. Having said that, I believe life experience taught patience and tenacity. If you want to write, don’t expect plain sailing. I left school at sixteen with very few qualifications - hated school - and got a job as a hairdresser. It was all I ever wanted to do, apart from be an author, but that wasn’t a possibility, or so I thought at the time. I ended up in a posh salon as a junior and treated like rubbish, so after about eighteen-months I couldn’t hack it and jacked it in. Then I worked in a factory packing drill bits. Marriage came at eighteen, a baby at nineteen then the marriage broke down. Later I went back into education aged twenty-four. Seven years on, and with considerably more qualifications, I began teaching history in a secondary school. Odd, given that I originally hated school!
Though I loved the children, after fifteen years, I decided that teaching had become a job of box-ticking and hoop-jumping in the Ofsted circus. By then I’d one novel published, and decided it was a now or never moment. Thankfully, I decided on the now, and left teaching and Bristol to move to Cornwall where my heart has always been. We were very lucky that the family came too! Cornwall has inspired six books. Since we moved in 2013 there’s been - Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Summer in Tintagel, Behind the Lie, Another Mother, Rip current and The Calico Cat. They’re all suspense/mysteries apart from The Calico Cat. That’s about a teacher who just decides to quit her job and set off along the South West Coast Path in search of adventure. No idea where I got that idea 😊.
Sometimes it’s hard to keep going when life gets tough, as mine did last year. I won’t go into all the detail, but I lost both my parents and had a major health issue. But writing always seems to pull me through though, just like it did when I was a teenager.
