Dr Ingrid de Zwarte wins the ASH dissertation award
The winner of the ASH dissertation award 2017-2018 is Ingrid de Zwarte (History) for her PhD dissertation 'The Hunger Winter: Fighting Famine in the Occupied Netherlands, 1944-45'. In February 2018, Ingrid completed her PhD in History at the UvA and the NIOD under supervision of Professor Peter Romijn and Dr Ralf Futselaar.
The dissertation skillfully sheds new light on existing views on the Hunger Winter. De Zwarte's approach is highly interdisciplinary, combining historical research with methods and insights from criminology, demography and epidemiology. Read more
