This one is going to be a bit motivational.

I'm baffled how many people are okay with the life framework of looking forward to Friday and dreading Monday. That ratio of 2 out of 7 days, where you are living on your own terms simply does not compute with me and I will do whatever it takes to work towards a 7/7 for myself.

Are there people who look forward and enjoy every day of the week? Yes, and huge congrats, respect, and admiration for those folks. Is that % low? I definitely think it is.

So we have two groups, the happy peeps (♥️) and the unhappy peeps. The second group is the one that fascinates me.

The ratio of complaining vs the ratio of doing something about it in the second group is heavily skewed towards the former. Let's dive a bit deeper where that lack of action is coming from.

For me, there are two main reasons.

Firstly, people are content and have accepted the reality of the 9-5 mindset, where you should show up at a place at 9 am, do something for 8 hours (arguable how useful the action itself is) and then at a specified time be allowed to leave. You have 25 (best case scenario in Europe, Japan has 7, US I think 14) days for the whole years, where you need to ask for permission to not be present AKA holidays, basically asking someone else if you can spend more time with your family/friends. That's their reality, that's the way they've been brought up, those are the paradigms of society they have accepted.

"We were taught compliance from an early age. The opposite of compliance, we’re told, is failure. In order to amplify compliance, people in authority have instilled in us not just a fear of failure, but worse, a fear of fear."

The second reason is the people who are a bit more self-aware and know that there is an alternative, but either lack discipline to do something about it, or lack self-confidence to believe they CAN do something about it.

Both of those can be traced back to self-doubt or the lack of confidence in one's self. A good definition I recently heard on confidence is that it is about "keeping promises to yourself". Keeping promises turns out, builds it up, not doing so, breaks it down.

So, think twice next time before committing to something and not sticking with it (fitness, diet, appointments, goals (big one) etc.)

Life is short.

Have a great 2/7 days ahead and think about the other 5.
